Burt Myers Claims Caraway

Modified Championship
|
SOPHIA, NC (October 22) -
Walnut Cove, NC's Burt Myers
pulled the double Saturday
night at Caraway Speedway by
claiming the win in the
Kenny Minter Memorial 125
and, in so doing, taking the
inaugural Southern Modified

remarkable 2016 season which
also saw him take the titles
at Bowman Gray Stadium and
in the Whelen Southern
Modified Tour.
"This
is just a dream come true
because I feel like in my
lifetime nobody will be able
to say they won all three
titles in the same season,"
said Myers in victory lane,
who entered the race tied
for the championship lead
with John Smith. "It took us
a long enough time to figure
out the halfway adjustments
and tonight we made the
right ones and this car was
just awesome."

HICKORY, NC (October
1) - Mt. Airy, NC's John
Smith played the pit
strategy game correctly
again to claim his fourth
Southern Modified Racing

PASS win Saturday night at
Hickory Motor Speedway in
the Hickory 125. With his
win, Smith and Burt Myers
are unofficially tied for
the series points lead
heading to the season-ending
Kenny Minter Memorial 125 on
October 22 at Caraway

"Yeah, we
sat there and took care of
our tires for the first 50
or 75 laps and my guys are
good on pit road and I made
a deal with them that if
they got me out first that I
thought we could win and
luckily we did," said Smith,
driver of the Mumy Financial
#25. "Going to Caraway,
we've just got to race our
hearts out. Burt [Myers] is
a helluva racer and we've
just got to go at it and let
the chips fall where they
may."

HICKORY, NC
(September 24) - Defending
Pro All Stars Series (PASS)
South Super Late Model
Champion, Tate Fogleman,
prevailed in a race-long
battle with Chris Dilbeck to
capture his first career
series win in the Catawba

at Hickory Motor Speedway.
With his win, Fogleman and
his father, Jay, join Mike

father-son duo to ever
capture wins in the South's
oldest Super Late Model

"Yeah, it's
definitely been a long time
coming, that's for sure,"
said Fogleman in an
emotional victory lane. "He
[Dilbeck] definitely put up
a fight there at the end and
I had my work cut out for me
to get around him. This has
been the closest we've been
to victory lane and I just
couldn't let that one get

In
Labor Day Action At Dillon |
DILLON, SC
(September 5) -
Walnut Cove, NC's Jason
Myers used the correct pit
strategy to edge out his
older brother, Burt, and New
York driver Andy Jankoiak to
claim his first career
Southern Modified Racing
Series (SMRS) Presented By
PASS win Monday afternoon at
Dillon Motor Speedway.
"I knew how good our car
was for about 60 laps, so
when the caution fell when
it did, I knew we needed to
pit then," said J. Myers,
driver of the Adams Towing &
Recovery #4. "I started
worrying though when the
last caution flew so much
later and everybody was able
to get that much more
fresher tires than we did.
My dad was on that radio
making those pit calls is
what put us back up front.
We had a heck of a race car
to set on the pole, lead as
many laps as we did, and
come home with the win."

'50 Is Nifty'
For Jeff Fultz In PASS
South Action at South Boston |
SOUTH BOSTON, VA
(August 13) – Veteran Jeff
Fultz outlasted a strong
field of Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) South Super
Late Models Saturday night
at South Boston Speedway to
take his long awaited first
career victory in the
series. The win by Fultz was
made even more meaningful by
the fact that he becomes the
50th different winner in the
series dating back to its
beginnings in 2006.
“I just love South Boston
and I don’t get to race much
anymore, plus the guys
worked all day in 100 degree
heat to get this car right,”
said Fultz of his milestone
win. “I’ve never won a PASS
race, three white flags and
we’re leading and the
caution comes out and we end
up losing. It’s a tough
series and they race
everywhere. I’ve finally got
something to put on my
resume that I have been
waiting a long time to get.”

HUDSON, NC (July 22)

side-by-side for the final
16 laps as Smith edged ahead
at the finish for his third

Presented By PASS win Friday
night at Tri-County Motor

"This is
one of the best racetracks
we go to, I wish we could
race here every week," said
Smith in victory lane. "Burt
[Myers] was pinching me off
and he was doing what he
needed to do to keep me down
there, but I had such great
forward drive. We raced
side-by-side and I don't
think we ever touched each

John Smith
Claims Second Straight SMRS
Modified Win At Wake County |
RALEIGH, NC (July 2)
- John Smith grabbed the
lead from Brandon Ward with
29 laps to go and led the
rest of the way for his
second consecutive Southern
Modified Racing Series
(SMRS) Presented By PASS win
in the Battle At The
Bullring Saturday night at
Wake County Speedway.
"I think the real deal
was my boys put the left
front on the left rear
[during the pit stop] and
that gave me a lot more
drive off the corner than
the rest of them, but I
still didn't think I could
get passed them," said Smith
afterwards. "Brandon [Ward]
was getting a little bit
sideways off the corner and
I knew Jason [Myers] was
coming so I knew I needed to
go. But my boys in the pits
really won me this race."

WILLIAMSTON, SC
(June 17) - Roger Lee Newton
inherited the Pro All Stars

Late Model win after a wild
finish, while John Smith
played the right strategy
for his first Southern
Modified Racing Series
(SMRS) win Friday night at
Anderson Motor Speedway. For
Newton, the Concord, NC
veteran was in the right
place when leaders Matt
Craig and Dalton Sargeant
made contact on the final
lap to claim his third
career PASS South Super Late
Model victory.
"To be
in this position after where
we started today, we changed
everything but the seat in
this car," said Newton
afterwards. "Man, the crew
worked their butts off
today. I don't give up on
them and they don't give up
on me, it's a team. The last
four or five races has taken
a lot of wind out of our
sails and we were about to
quit racing. I don't like to
win this way, but we will
take them however we can get
them."

Competition for Old Glory 125 Win
at Concord |
MIDLAND, NC (May 27) - Ryan
Moore took advantage of a late race
restart over Trevor Sanborn and led
the rest of the way to win Friday
night's Old Glory 125 at Concord
Speedway for the Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) South Super Late
Models. Moore's victory was his
first since taking the checkered
flag at Caraway Speedway nearly two
years ago.
"I just tried to
run a smart race, these things
always some to come down to a couple
of restarts at the end and I knew
that, so I tried to play it smart
and it worked out," said Moore,
driver of the RC Moore
Transportation #74. "At Caraway we
had a bad race and honestly I was
kind of dejected and had enough of
it, but my dad, he never gives up
and we stuck with it and I guess
it's for times like these."

Ryan Preece with less than five laps
to go and held on to claim his first
career Southern Modified Racing

After being mired by bad luck,
Measmer, a former track champion at
Concord, took his first career
Tour-type Modified win in front of
an excited group of hometown fans.
"To finish second to Ryan Preece
is an accomplishment, but I saw he
was tight from the center off and I
knew it was just a matter of time
before I could get him," said
Measmer in victory lane. "We've
worked really hard, but I tell you,
it hasn't sunk in yet."

McKennedy Holds Off John
Smith to Win The Ace Of
Diamonds Presented By North
South Shootout SMRS Event At
Ace Motor Speedway |
Sophia, NC (April
25, 2016) - The Southern
Modified Racing Series
Presented By PASS made their
second stop of a ten race
schedule at Ace Motor
Speedway located on the
outskirts of Burlington,
N.C. The event started with
Walnut Cove's Burt Myers
capturing the Pole Award.
After a mandatory re-draw of
the top six qualifiers Myers
would remain in the top
starting position alongside
of Concord's Josh Nichols.
Myers would keep the top
position for the first 85
laps and lead the way to the
pit stops as the caution was
displayed. As the pit stops
un-folded Jonathan McKennedy
of Chelmsford, MA came out
first after lagging back in
the rear for the first
portion of the feature. He
would continue to keep the
top position fending off
multiple attempts by
Winston-Salem's John Smith,
capturing his second
consecutive win of the
season. B. Myers, Jason
Myers and Brandon Ward
rounded out the top five
finishers.
"Car ran
well all day it had pretty
good speed in it. I elected
to save a little at start of
the race knowing it was a
long race and could only
change one tire. I came in
the pits 7th and came out
with the lead. For the last
40 laps I had a lot of
pressure from behind. Most
the laps there was a car
only a few feet away from my
rear bumper. Great to win at
another track for the first
time being there. Car count
was down but majority of the
cars that attended had top
notch equipment with good
drivers from the south. Like
to thank my pit crew, my
spotter, Pettit Engines,
Race Work Exit Realty, JTK
Engine Repair," stated
McKennedy.
Smith
comes home second and leads
the SMRS points. "It was a
heck of a race, I was
wishing we could have been
one spot better. It seemed
like every time I would get
up there to get the lead the
caution would come out. My
car got too loose at the end
and we ended up second
again. Seems like we are the
bridesmaid but we will get
'em at the next one," stated
Smith.
Myers debut a
brand new car for the venue
and brought it home third.
"We had an awesome car.
I've won two races this year
by switching lefts (tires)
and now I've lost two by
switching lefts. I asked God
for peace in my heart and
mind to accept what he gives
me. Sometimes that's not
easy but that's what I have
to do. It's tough, man I had
a great car. It's a brand
new car and we sat on the
pole, it's a great car right
out of the box and we worked
hard and put lots of
preparation into it. We'll
go home, rest and be better
for the next one," stated
Myers.

SOPHIA, NC (April

pass race leader Jared Fryar
on the final restart and led
the rest of the way to score
his first career Pro All
Stars Series (PASS) South
Super Late Model win in the
Dogwood 125 Saturday night
at Caraway Speedway. Craig's
win allowed him to close in
to within two points of PASS
South points leader Kodie
Conner, who finished third.
"I was running third
about 20 laps into the race
and I felt the pedal go to
the floor, and I thought,
dang there goes another
one," said Craig, driver of
the family-owned C&C Boilers
Sales & Services #54. "I
just drove my tail off after
that. They told me to save
my stuff and wait for a
caution, I didn't listen to
them. I think I'm pretty
good at restarts and we got
one there at the end and
were able to hold on for the

Dominates To Claim
Second PASS Easter Bunny 150
Win At Hickory |
HICKORY, NC (March

Stars Series (PASS) Super
Late Model national champion
Ben Rowe led 114 laps en
route to a dominating win in
Saturday night's 11th Annual
Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory
Motor Speedway. The Turner,
ME, native's second win in
the Easter Bunny 150 was
made even sweeter by the
fact that it guarantees Rowe
a starting spot in this
year's Oxford 250 in August
at Oxford Plains Speedway in
Maine.
"I just tried
to set my own pace, but that
kid in the 19 car [Riley
Herbst], he was giving me
all I wanted, but if I could
clear him off turn two I was
ok and I can't think of a
better way to travel back
home 17 hours than with a
win," said Rowe after his
first win in the prestigious
race since 2009. "This win
is huge, I mean it's the
Easter Bunny and this is
Hickory and it's a tough
place. To be locked into the
Oxford 250 is huge too. I've
seen over 100 cars try to
qualify for that race and a
lot can happen in the heat
races, so to have a
guaranteed starting spot is
great." |
