Battle and Dickey Triumph in Open-Wheel Action at WMMP
May 18, 2026 — N. Woodstock, NH — Cornish, Maine’s Trevor Sanborn was the last man standing at White Mountain Motorsports Park on Sunday, May 17, taking the victory at the HK Motorsports Spring Spectacular for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models.
In a race filled with plot twists and rug pulls, Sanborn was on the right end of fortune, inheriting the lead with two laps to go after Jimmy Renfrew’s spin and handling a green-white-checkered finish. It was Sanborn’s ninth career PASS North win, but his first since the 2025 Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway.
Johnny Clark, who was looking to set the all-time PASS win record at his best track, earned the pole in qualifying and led the first 18 laps. But Joey Doiron showed it wouldn’t be a cakewalk, soaring around the outside of Clark to go to the point.
A seemingly harmless spin by Pat Corbett to draw the first caution on lap 35 turned out to be the catalyst that turned a relatively calm race into a wacky affair. Eight laps later, Angelo Belsito went around in turn two for the second yellow. During that caution, Sanborn and Belsito were among the cars that pitted for adjustments, which proved to be a turning point for both.
“At this track, I feel like when you pit, you can come back up through the field fairly easily — you just have to stay out of the messes,” Sanborn said after the race. “We made an adjustment, and it helped some, but it wasn’t enough. We actually had to pit a second time. The next time we pitted and made a couple of more little adjustments, the car woke up. It had great drive off the corner, and it turned pretty good.”
On the restart, Cole Robie was slow to come up to speed from the third position, stacking up the inside line. That led to contact in turn one between Mike Scorzelli and reigning champion D.J. Shaw, triggering a melee that also collected Ryan Kuhn and Kaiden Fisher.
That was just the beginning of the dominoes to fall. Clark edged ahead of Doiron for two laps on the restart, but after some jostling, Clark, Alexendre Tardif, and Robie came together in the first corner on lap 48. Clark spun from the contact while Tardif suffered a flat tire, and Jimmy Renfrew Jr. snuck through to take over second.
Renfrew then swiped the top spot from Doiron on the restart, just before Robie and Shaw made contact in turn three as Shaw tried to claw back through the field. Shaw ended up jumping Robie’s left rear, and Gabe Brown was the innocent victim piling in, leaving all three with heavy damage.
The race calmed down for a while in the middle stages, but another incident erupted on lap 84. As Doiron and Sanborn fought for second while trying to get around Corbett, Doiron ended up pinched into the frontstretch wall, followed by Corbett spinning in turn one. Sanborn assumed second with a resurgent Clark taking over third.
However, it appeared no one had anything for Renfrew. The Candia, New Hampshire driver pulled away in search of his second win of the season, and even another yellow with 18 laps to go for Doiron’s flat tire didn’t slow his pace, leaving Sanborn in his dust as Clark and Belsito battled it out for third.
But entering the first turn with two laps remaining, Renfrew’s car suddenly went around, slipping in fluid dropped by Garrett Hall’s faltering machine. That brought out the final caution and gift-wrapped Sanborn the lead. Taking advantage of the unexpected opportunity, Sanborn quickly pulled away in the final sprint. He became the 19th different PASS Super Late Model winner in 56 events at the quarter-mile oval.
Clark fended off a charge from Belsito for second, with Belsito getting his first career PASS podium finish in third. Doiron and Shaw overcame their troubles to take fourth and fifth. Renfrew, Robie, Kate Re, Fisher, and Scorzelli completed the top 10. Full results are available at www.proallstarsseries.com/results/2026-results.

Jeffrey Battle of Dunstable, Massachusetts, picked up where he left off in the New England Super Modified Series (NESS), running down Dan Bowes late in the season-opening 50-lap feature. Bowes started on the pole and pulled away early, while the reigning champion had to come from the eighth starting position after a poor qualifying effort.
However, Battle steadily worked his way through the starting field, moving into the second spot on lap 23 and eventually chasing down Bowes. Battle made a bid on the outside with 10 laps to go, but the winningest NESS driver pinned him behind a lapped car to temporarily maintain the advantage.
Bowes couldn’t keep Battle at bay forever, though, and Battle made the second effort count, snatching the lead with seven laps remaining. It was Battle’s eighth career NESS victory and second in a row at White Mountain Motorsports Park. Matt Swanson beat Ben Seitz for the final spot on the podium while Anthony Nocella rounded out the top five.

Milford, New Hampshire’s Stevey Dickey Jr. scored his first Kennebec Equipment Rental Modified victory in dominating fashion. Dickey, who acquired a Modified the day before the season started after a multi-year absence from racing, shook off the rust to go wire to wire in the 50-lap main event.
Action was plentiful behind him, as Spencer Morse and Bobby Seger Jr. kept swapping the second spot through a series of cautions, while Jacoby Maines, Reed Reno, and Shawn Knight put on a show charging from the back of the pack. Dickey was just too strong, though, and earned a trip to Victory Lane.
Morse was runner-up for the second straight event while Seger got his first podium finish with a third-place effort. Maine’s blitz through the field stalled out in fourth, while Ricky Thompson Jr. matched his career best in fifth. Reno, Zack Bowie, Knight, Cody Macomber, and Mike Penfold were sixth through 10th.
All three PASS touring series will be at Star Speedway on Sunday, May 24, for the previously weather-delayed Coastal 150. The event includes round one of the Dr. Mom Says School is Cool Challenge for the New England Supermodified Series.
Post time and pricing are TBA. The event will be broadcast live on the Northeast Short Track Network.
