Apple Blossom 200 Set To
Kick Off PASS Northwest Triple Crown At Wenatchee |
WENATCHEE, WA (April 22)
– After months of anticipation, drivers and fans of the
Pacific Northwest are just days away from the return of
organized stock car racing to the region with this weekend’s
Apple Blossom 200. The season opener for Wenatchee Valley’s
Super Oval (WVSO) will also double as the inaugural event
for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Northwest Triple Crown.
PASS is largely regarded as the
premier sanctioning body for short track asphalt racing in
the North America. The Apple Blossom 200 has traditionally
been one of the biggest Super Late Model races in the
Northwest, so the pairing of the two just seems to make
sense. The PASS Northwest Triple Crown has already drawn
lots of interest from racers excited about the possibilities
for this year and beyond.
“Guys are hopeful and ready to
support PASS in the Northwest,” said WVSO promoter and short
track racing legend, Garrett Evans. “I know several drivers
that have been saving their cars because they are committed
to the PASS Northwest Triple Crown. We’ve had teams practice
here at WVSO from Spokane and other places. And the local
guys have been practicing a lot too and are really excited.”
Since he became a full-time PASS
driver in 2009, Durham, NC’s Jay Fogleman has been one of
the series staunchest supporters. The series has allowed the
veteran driver to race from Florida to Maine at speedways he
never once imagined prior to joining PASS. That will
continue this weekend when Fogleman travels to WVSO to
compete in the Apple Blossom 200.
“I can’t thank Garrett [Evans]
enough for this opportunity to come out and race at
Wenatchee against some of the best short track racers in the
West,” said Fogleman, the defending PASS National Champion.
“PASS helped resurrect Super Late Model racing in the
Southeast and I think the PASS Northwest Triple Crown will
do the same for that part of the county. I’m just really
excited and ready to go race at a new facility for me
against a lot of really talented race car drivers.”
Gary Lewis of Snohomish, WA is
one of those talented racers. Lewis is a former champion of
the old Northwest tour and is usually at the top of the
contenders list wherever he races. The PASS Northwest Triple
Crown at WVSO is vital to the region Lewis believes.
“First off, I’m really excited
that PASS is coming in and giving the Northwest racers a
place to race and a chance at growing a series through the
coming years,” said Lewis. “I think it will be a good race,
a lot of top teams have shown interest and the Apple Blossom
200 has always been one of those races you want to win. We
tested a new car at Wentachee, it went really good and I
think we will have a great shot at the win.”
In addition to drawing veteran
drivers like Fogleman and Lewis, the Apple Blossom 200 will
also have its share of youth and exuberance. Idaho’s
Jonathon Gomez has proven himself wherever he races across
the West Coast and feels Saturday’s field of competitors
will rank among the best.
“I see this year’s Apple Blossom
being a very professional race and should be a very clean
race because I will be racing against a great group of
drivers from the Northwest,” said Gomez.
Gomez echoed the feelings of many
that believe the time is right for PASS to come to the
Northwest.
“I think it’s great that there
will be another series for us to compete on in the region
and I hope that it will only grow bigger and better through
the years,” Gomez continued.
The PASS Northwest Triple Crown
looks to build on an outstanding start to the season for
both PASS North and PASS South that has seen extremely high
car counts thus far. Canadian champion Brian Levant has
already filed an early entry along with Oregon’s Alan Kress.
Several drivers from Washington state have also entered,
many of whom have experience at WVSO, including Ricky Allen,
Michael Knutson, Kelly Mann, Josh Roberts, and Todd Walters
with many more drivers expected this weekend.
Action gets under way on Friday,
April 26th for the Apple Blossom 200 with rotating practice
from 11 AM – 4 PM for the PASS Northwest Super Late Models,
WESCO Sprints, Pro 4 Alliance, and Pure Stocks. On Saturday,
April 27th, rotating practice for all divisions begins at
Noon, with qualifying at 4 PM, and main event racing to
follow at 6 PM.

NAPLES, ME (February 21) –
For many, the Northwestern United
States is known for its beauty. In a
lot places there, that rugged
terrain has changed little since the
days early explorers first traveled
its unknown wilderness…a territory
still known for its quiet,
hard-working men and women. And, the
racers of the Pacific Northwest also
possess that subtle tenacity that
has made them famous around the
nation.
Over the last decade,
however, Super Late Model racing has
skewed off course in the Northwest.
Lack of organization, rules, and
procedures have plagued the region
over the last number of years. But,
there is new hope in 2013, with the
birth of the Pro All Stars Series
(PASS) Northwest Triple Crown. The
sanctioning body looks to build on
the success it has enjoyed for more
than ten years in New England,
Canada, and the Southeast. In 2013,
the PASS Northwest Triple Crown will
kick off with three major events at
Wenatchee Valley Super Oval (WVSO),
the first being the Apple Blossom
200 on April 27. WVSO promoter and
racer Garrett Evans believes PASS
can eventually unify tracks under a
common set of rules and procedures.
“Every track is independent in
the Northwest and there hasn’t been
a lot of organization for the last
four years or more,” said Evans, a
former 4-time Northwest Series
Champion. “A lot of these guys have
a bunch of time and money invested
in these cars and they are looking
for the organization that PASS can
bring. Fans haven’t got to see good
races lately and racers haven’t been
able to compete in quality events
for the most part. Hopefully
together we can bring Northwest
racing back to what it used to be.”
Interest in the PASS Northwest
Triple Crown has been nothing short
of remarkable. The list of racers
that have committed to racing in all
three events is nothing less than
superb. Along with Evans, Ron Eaton
of Tacoma, WA is regarded as one of
the best racers to ever come out of
the Northwest and hopes to defend
his Apple Blossom 200 triumph of a
year ago. Brothers Jeff and Jason
Jefferson have been busy wrenching
the championship cars of Gene Price
Motorsports as of late, but are
looking to return to the driver’s
seat in the PASS Northwest Triple
Crown. Gary Lewis, Owen Riddle, Mike
Longton, Ricky Allen, Mitch Kleyn
and Wenatchee’s own Shane Mitchell
will definitely be among the
favorites to defend the home state
pride. The “Z Man” John Zaretzke
provides excitement every time he
hits the track and will be joined in
the Triple Crown by Brett Harris who
is coming out of retirement to
compete.
Western Canada will
also be well represented by drivers
like current WVSO track record
holder Pete Harding, Kelly Admiral,
and Brian Levant, who competed with
PASS in 2011 at a $75,000 to win
event at North Wilkesboro Speedway.
Canadian native and current North
Carolina resident Larry Pollard will
be inducted into the WVSO Hall Of
Fame and compete in PASS Northwest
Triple Crown Race #2, the Columbia
River 150 on June 15.
Idaho
hot shoe John Gomez plans to compete
in April’s Apple Blossom 200 and the
final race of the Triple Crown, the
Wenatchee Valley 300 on August 9-10.
The Wenatchee Valley 300 is one of
the West’s most anticipated short
track races of the season and could
pay as much $16,000 to the winner.
Defending PASS National Champion
Jay Fogleman also plans to make the
long trek from North Carolina to
race in the Apple Blossom in a car
owned by Garrett Evans.
“Without a doubt, the Triple Crown
is assembling the best lineup of
drivers the Northwest has seen in
many, many years,” said Evans. “It’s
kinda like the old days and I think
it will be a chance for people to
see something that haven’t seen in a
long time. Fans in the Northwest
will get to see why people back East
love the PASS tour and why it’s the
premier sanctioning body for short
track racing right now in the
country.”
Action for the PASS
Northwest Triple Crown at Wenatchee
Valley Super Oval gets under way on
Saturday, April 27 with the Apple
Blossom 200. Entry forms for the
PASS Northwest Triple Crown, as well
as information sheets, rules and
2013 PASS license forms for can be

The Pro All Stars Series is

Super Late Models and boasts such
marquee events as the PASS Northwest
Triple Crown at Wenatchee Valley

Bunny 150 at the historic Hickory

PASS Continues to Grow with
Expansion To Northwest in 2013 |
WENATCHEE, WA (October 27)
– Pro All Stars Series (PASS) President Tom Mayberry and
Wenatchee Valley Super Oval (WVSO) Promoter Garrett Evans
announced Saturday that PASS and WVSO will co-sanction the
PASS Northwest Triple Crown in 2013. The announcement was
made Saturday night at WVSO’s annual season ending awards
banquet. The PASS Northwest Triple Crown will fill the void
for West Coast Super Late Model drivers who have been
looking for some time to compete under an organized set of
rules and procedures. With this move, the PASS Northwest
Series joins PASS North and PASS South in uniting short
track racers across the country under one sanctioning body
with universally beneficial rules.
“The Northwest has provided us with some of the toughest
drivers around and we’re looking forward to the opportunity
of racing at Wenatchee next year and for years to come,”
said PASS President Tom Mayberry at the WVSO Awards Banquet.
“Garrett Evans is a legendary racer in his own right and I’m
excited to work with him in promoting PASS Northwest. We
think next year will be very successful and look to forward
to further expansion for PASS Northwest in 2014.”
Garrett Evans is a well known name in short track racing
circles with four championships and the all-time wins lead
in the old Northwest Tour that sanctioned races until 2006.
Evans quickly became a fan of the PASS formula for Super
Late Model racing after competing in “The Race” at North
Wilkesboro Speedway in 2011 and in this year’s revitalized
All American 400 at Nashville. He has faith that Tom
Mayberry and PASS can resurrect Super Late Model racing in
the Northwest much as they did for Southeastern racers with
the creation of PASS South in 2006.
“I’m happy that we’ve been able to make this happen and so
are a lot of the other competitors that I’ve talked to,”
said Evans. “It’s been 6 years since we’ve had any sort of
sanctioning body out our way and we’ve been in dire need of
organization and experience and that’s what PASS offers.
Last year at North Wilkesboro Tom [Mayberry} and I started
talking about this, but I never dream it could really
happen. I’ve been really excited since we started working on
the deal and I can’t wait for next year.”
Each race of the PASS Northwest Triple Crown will be
contested at Wenatchee Valley Super Oval along with a full
complement of support divisions. The Apple Blossom 200 will
serve as the Inaugural PASS Northwest race and will take the
green flag on April 27, 2013. Joining the PASS Northwest
Super Late Models in April will be the WESCO Sprints, Pro
Four Alliance and Pure Stocks. On June 15, 2013, the PASS
Northwest Series will compete in the Columbia River 150.
They will be joined by another exciting undercard of racing
which will include the WESCO Sprints, Pro Four Alliance,
Can-Am Thunder Cars, and Pure Stocks. There will be rotating
practice sessions each Friday for the first two rounds of
the triple crown. Teams will have additional practices, plus
qualifying and main events on Saturday of each race weekend.
The top 20 qualifiers will be locked in based on their
qualifying times. However, the top 10 qualifiers will redraw
for their starting positions inside the top 10. The
remainder of the field will be set by last chance race(s)
and PASS provisionals.
The final round of PASS Northwest Triple Crown will award a
substantial bonus purse to any driver who commits and
attempts to qualify for all three races. The Wenatchee
Valley 300 will be the marquee event of the PASS Northwest
Triple Crown and will take place on August 9-10, 2013.
Qualifying and heat races for the PASS Northwest Super Late
Models will go green on Friday, August 9th along with
feature racing for Pure Stocks, Legends, and Bump To Pass.
On Saturday, August 10th, fans can see the PASS Northwest
Last Chance Race, followed by features for the Pro Four
Alliance, Legends, WESCO Sprints, and the Wenatchee Valley
300. Advance discount ticket packages will be available at
Leonard Evans Cars or by calling 509-663-8551.
The Pro All Stars Series is
recognized as the nation’s premier sanctioning body for
asphalt Super Late Models and boasts such marquee events as
the TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway, the Easter Bunny
150 at Hickory Motor Speedway, and the Autobus Le Quebecois
Triple Crown at Autodrome Chaudiere. For technical
information regarding the PASS Northwest Triple Crown please
