SHAW &
COOKSON
SCORE
WMMP WINS |
WMMP
PRESS RELEASE -
Center Conway, NH's
D.J. Shaw outran
Jay, ME's Dillon
Moltz to win the
Foley Oil & Propane
150 for the Pro All
Stars Series (PASS)
Super Late Models.
Moltz dominated the
first half of the
event from the pole
as Shaw, the
five-time PASS North
champion and
American-Canadian
Tour point leader,
maneuvered his way
from the 11th
starting spot.
Shaw was running
third to Moltz and
current PASS point
leader Johnny Clark
on lap 62 when Clark
tried to muscle
inside Moltz off
turn four. But Clark
broke loose and spun
around to bring out
the third caution.
Shaw then took the
lead from Moltz on
the restart only to
give it back a few
laps later.
The third-generation
racer kept at it,
though, and blew
past Moltz on a
lap-81 restart after
Dan Winter's stalled
automobile brought
out another yellow.
After a fifth and
final caution on lap
98 when Winters and
Josh Childs tangled,
the final 52 laps
went green with Shaw
and Moltz leaving
the pack behind.
Moltz could pace
Shaw, but he
couldn't catch him,
leaving Shaw with
his 22nd career PASS
victory and second
of the season.
Hallowell, ME's
Clark was able to
come back and swipe
third from Berwick,
ME's Joey Doiron
with three laps to
go. Trevor Sanborn
came in fifth
followed by Jake
Matheson, Joe
Pastore, Jeremy
Davis, Derek
Ramstrom, and
Wilson.
Pittsfield, ME's Max
Cookson picked up
his series-leading
fourth PASS Modified
victory of the
season. Cookson
started 11th and
spent the middle
stages of the 50-lap
feature dogging
Auburn, ME's Brandon
Varney. The two
bumped wheels on a
lap-33 restart,
which knocked
Cookson back to
fourth in the
running order.
Cookson got a
helping hand a few
laps later when Bill
Dixon spun out of
the third spot on
the frontstretch at
the same time that
Troy Morse looped it
in turn four. After
restarting third,
Cookson went outside
Thomaston, ME's Ryan
Ripley for second
with nine laps to
got when Ripley
tried to get inside
Varney exiting turn
four.
Then
with five laps
remaining, Varney
drifted high in turn
one, leaving an
opening for Cookson.
Varney tried to slam
the door out of turn
two, but Cookson
already had stuck
the nose in. The
resulting contact
sent Varney sliding
through the infield
grass -- which was
wet due to some
afternoon rain --
from the start of
the backstretch all
the way to turn
four.
Everyone
miraculously avoided
hitting Varney when
he came back up on
the track, and
Cookson fended off
Ripley on the
restart for the
victory. Shawn
Knight, Zach
Nicholson, Spencer
Morse, Varney, Jake
Madore, point leader
Garrett Lamb, A.J.
Cates, and Spencer
Vaughn rounded out
the top-10. |
