Grassroots Racers To Share
Spotlight At
Richmond's PASS Commonwealth
Classic |
NAPLES, ME (March 20) - In
just over a week, short
track racers from across
North America will converge
on Richmond Raceway for the
inaugural PASS Commonwealth
Classic. While a lot of the
focus will be on the Pro All
Stars Series (PASS) Super
Late Models as they kick off
the 2019 PASS National
Championship season, that
will be just a fraction of
the nearly 400 laps of
action fans will be able to
see at Richmond next
Saturday afternoon. In
addition to the PASS Super
Late Models, 40 ACT Late
Models are currently
entered, along with the
return of the Tour-Type
Modifieds to Richmond, and
first-time trips for the
MASS Street Stocks and NEMST
Mini Stocks.
As of
today, 50 Mini Stocks from
up and down the Eastern
Seaboard are set to try and
qualify for their $1,000 to
win, 25-lap race. And, like
the ACT Late Models, the
Mini Stocks will compete in
heat races to set the
starting lineup for the
biggest field in NEMST
history. While top southern
runners like AJ Sanders,
Shane Canipe, Michael
Tucker, and Jesse Yopp look
to defend their home turf,
Rochester, NH's Josh Rheaume
will be leading a strong
contingent of New England
4-Cylinder racers.
"Being able to race at
Richmond, as a Mini Stock
racer, is unreal," says
Rheaume. "When the news came
out, we knew we had to make
it happen. Last year we
struggled a bit with a new
engine and chassis package,
but ended strong with a
podium finish at the World
Series. We are beyond
grateful for PASS stepping
up to put on the show, and
NEMST for working with them
to allow us Mini Stock
racers from all over the
country another 'once in a
lifetime' chance to race at
a facility like Richmond."
Like the Mini Stocks, a
big field of nearly 40 MASS
Street Stockers are
currently entered for
Richmond and the chance to
win $2,000 at the end of
their 40-lapper.
Stantonsburg, NC's Greg
Barnette has won numerous
Street Stock races over his
career and multiple track
championships at Southern
National and on dirt at
County Line Raceway. Since
2016, Barnette has been a
regular with the MASS Street
Stocks and is honored to
have the chance to compete
at Richmond Raceway.
"To come from such humble
and simple racing roots to
racing at a Cup track is
unbelievable," says
Barnette, who will debut a
new body and paint scheme on
the BlackPearl Racing #8.
"This is the big stage, this
is where we want to shine
bright as we battle the
other stars of the
Mid-Atlantic Street Stock
series. It's a long road
from the Carolina dirt
tracks and junkyards to the
big city lights of Richmond.
I hope to see our #8 on that
huge scoring pylon when we
pull through the tunnel with
this car we built in a
barn."
The PASS
Commonwealth Classic weekend
will begin on Thursday,
March 28 with optional
hauler parking and safety
inspection from 12 - 4 PM.
On Friday, March 29,
rotating practice for all
competing divisions will be
from 11 AM - 5 PM. And then
on Saturday, March 30, pit
gates at Richmond Raceway
will open at 7 AM, with
practice from 9 AM - 12 PM,
qualifying at 1 PM, and
racing set to start at
around 4 PM

PASS National Championship
To Kickoff On Big Stage
At Richmond |
NAPLES, ME (March 16) - In
two weeks, grassroots racers
from across North America
will finally be able to
converge on Richmond Raceway
for the long-awaited PASS
Commonwealth Classic on
Saturday, March 30. For
many, it will be the chance
of a lifetime to compete on
one of the most historic
short tracks in the country.
But, for others, it will be
the start of the 2019 Pro
All Stars Series (PASS)
National Championship
Series.
Now in its
12th season, the PASS
National Championship Series
is the country's only
national title to be awarded
in Super Late Model racing.
With two national
championship points paying
races for the PASS Super
Late Models at Richmond,
several drivers are looking
to compete in both 75 lap
races, each of which will
pay $7,000 and $700 to
start. One of those drivers
is Uncasville, CT's, Ray
Christian, III, who will be
competing in both races.
"I think being able to
race at Richmond is
awesome," says Christian.
"Any time weekly short track
racers that are used to
running on quarter-mile to
half-mile ovals get the
chance to run on the same
track that the stars run on,
you really feel like a
superstar and I'm excited
for it. It's PASS's first
time at Richmond so I feel
like that will make the
competition really tight
because no one knows what to
expect. It's definitely
going to be a show."
After competing locally in
Connecticut and in sporadic
ACT Late Model shows,
Christian burst onto the
national scene last year
following a strong
performance in Dillon, SC
that saw him finish third
behind PASS National
Champions, Derek Griffith
and Ben Rowe. Christian
feels he and his team are
ready to take the next step
towards a championship
beginning with Richmond.
"After our strong
showing last year finishing
second in national points as
a rookie, we are definitely
hungry to chase a national
championship," says
Christian. "It's definitely
going to be a tough task. We
came out of nowhere last
year and nobody really knew
who we were wherever we
went. But I feel like now
we're definitely on people's
radar and they know that we
are fast enough to compete
for podium wins and a
national title."
The
total number of PASS Super
Late Models is almost at 40
with entries still coming
in. PASS veterans Jody
Measamer, Jared Irvan and
Reid Lanpher are now
entered, along with Virginia
driver Collin Garrett and
Brandon Watson. On the other
end of the spectrum, Kyle
Reid will be making the long
tow from Alberta to compete,
while Dan McKeage will be
heading down from Maine and
PASS National Championship
rookie contender Devin
O'Connell will be coming
from Connecticut.
The
ACT Late Models will be
competing in a 65-lapper at
Richmond Raceway and has 36
cars entered as of today
with a host of heavy
hitters. Former Milk Bowl
winners, Patrick Laperele
and Joey Polewarcyzk are now
entered, along with former
Thunder Road champion and
ACT winner, Bobby Therrien.
The Tour-Type Modifieds will
be making their return to
Richmond for the first time
since 2002, utilizing the
popular rules package used
at New Smyrna Speedway
during Florida Speedweeks.
North Carolina's Bryan
Dauzat has filed an entry
along with Connecticut's Jim
Dolan, and Kris Watson.
The grassroots racing
action as part of the PASS
Commonwealth Classic will be
completed by events for the
MASS Street Stocks and North
East Mini Stocks (NEMST),
and both divisions have
shown great support from
competitors around the
country. Over 30 Street
Stocks are now entered from
Maine to Florida, including
David Cameron and Joe
Gerrard. Frankie Kimmel will
be looking to follow up a
strong second place finish
at Dillon's New Year's Bash,
while Virginia's Justin
Brown and Vermont's Adam
Maynard will be looking for
good finishes as well.
The largest field in
NEMST history have filed
entries with over 40 Mini
Stocks expected to assemble.
Drivers range from Maine to
as far south as South
Carolina and as far west as
Ohio. Competitors will be
racing for a minimum $1000
to win plus bonus awards and
a $100 to start purse.
The PASS Commonwealth
Classic weekend will begin
on Thursday, March 28 with
optional hauler parking and
safety inspection from 12 -
4 PM. On Friday, March 29,
rotating practice for all
competing divisions will be
from 11 AM - 5 PM. And then
on Saturday, March 30, pit
gates at Richmond Raceway
will open at 7 AM, with
practice from 9 AM - 12 PM,
qualifying at 1 PM, and
racing set to start at
around 4 PM

Super
Late Model & Modified
Drivers
Ready
For Their Shots At Richmond |
NAPLES, ME (February 28) -
In racing, there are rarely
opportunities to do
something new and different.
But, for grassroots racers
from across North America,
they will get a chance to do
something that covers both
of those characteristics
when they tackle the
legendary Richmond Raceway
for the inaugural PASS
Commonwealth Classic on
Saturday afternoon, March
30th. After many feared
their dreams would not come
true following a rainout at
Richmond last fall, entrants
from across the motorsports
spectrum are making their
Richmond intentions known
from the Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) Super Late
Models to the Tour-Type
Modifieds, American-Canadian
Tour (ACT) Late Models, MASS
Street Stocks, and Mini
Stocks.
The PASS
Super Late Models will be
featured in two events at
Richmond Raceway, with races
for the Open motor cars and
Crate motor cars. And, it
will be the first chance to
see the new Generation 6
body from FiveStar Race Car
Bodies. With two national
championship points paying
races for the PASS Super
Late Models, several drivers
are looking to compete in
both 75 lap races, each of
which will pay $7,000 and
$700 to start. Former PASS
champions and Oxford 250
winners, Ben Rowe and Travis
Benjamin, are planning to
compete in both races, along
with national championship
hopeful, Ray Christian, III.
Like most of his fellow
competitors, Benjamin
relishes every chance he can
get to race on the 3/4-mile
speedway.
"Racing at
Richmond will be an awesome
experience," says Benjamin,
driver of the Petit
Motorsports #7. "I think the
racing will be great, with a
ton of great teams. It
should be a really good
time."
Among those
entered for the PASS Crate
race include defending
Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown
winner, Derek Ramstrom, as
well as Reid Lanpher, Jimmy
Renfrew, Jr., Gabe Brown,
Bryan Shipp, Garrett Hall,
and Mike Hopkins.
The
PASS Open race will feature
defending PASS National
champion, Derek Griffith,
PASS North and South
champions, DJ Shaw and Matt
Craig, along with Eddie
MacDonald, Corey Heim, Eddie
Van Meter, JP Josiasse,
Nicholas Naugle, Trevor
Noles, Tate Fogleman, and
Austin Reed, who will be
making the trek east from
California.
The ACT
Late Models will be
competing in a 65-lapper at
Richmond Raceway and have 31
cars entered as of today.
Jake Johnson and Bryan
Kruczek will be competing in
both the ACT Late Model and
PASS Super Late Model races.
Several big ACT names will
be in competition at
Richmond including Nick
Sweet, Wayne Helliwell, Jr.,
Tommy Carey, and Joey
Polewarcyzk.
The
Tour-Type Modifieds will be
making their return to
Richmond for the first time
since 2002, utilizing the
popular rules package
recently used at New Smyrna
Speedway during Florida
Speedweeks. Among those
entered include Robbie Babb,
Dan Clatterbuck, Richard
Savory and Anthony Sasely.
New York's Jimmy Zacharias
has signed on and is excited
to try and take home the
$7,000 winner's purse at
Richmond Raceway.
"I'm looking forward to it,"
says Zacharias, who will
pilot his familiar Midstate
Basement Authorities/Sunoco
Race Fuels #71. "It'll be a
great experience to get to
race a Modified at such a
facility as Richmond
Raceway. I've seen the place
on TV, but that's about it.
I've never been on a track
like Richmond that I can
compare to so I'm really
excited."
The
grassroots racing action as
part of the PASS
Commonwealth Classic will be
completed by events for the
MASS Street Stocks and Mini
Stocks, and both divisions
have shown great support
from competitors around the
country. Almost 30 MASS
Street Stocks are entered
including Ricky Locklair,
Ron Flynn, Greg Barnette,
Stephen Sharp, and Mark
Lushes.
While the
North East Mini Stock count
has swelled to over 40
entries and it looks like it
will truly be a border war
with drivers from all along
the East Coast entered so
far. Multi-time North East
Mini Stock Tour (NEMST)
winner, Nick Anderson is
entered, along with fellow
New Englanders, Cory
Plummer, Jake Rheaume, Zach
Audet, and Devin Guyl. But,
top southern runners like
Michael Tucker, Patrick
Arch, Adam Thomas and
Virginia racers, Jessie
Jones, IV, Jesse Yopp,
Jarrett Milam, and Thomas
Parmelee are signed up as
they look to defend their
region's honor.
The
PASS Commonwealth Classic
weekend will begin on
Thursday, March 28 with
optional hauler parking and
safety inspection from 12 -
4 PM. On Friday, March 29,
rotating practice for all
competing divisions will be

combinations so we decided
to have two separate races,"
said PASS President Tom
Mayberry. "In the end, the
