Powers to 3rd Straight
PASS South Win at Caraway |
SOPHIA, NC (March
18) - Matt Craig led
flag-to-flag Sunday
afternoon to score his third
straight Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) South Super
Late Model win at Caraway
Speedway in the RGS Products
125. Craig's win moves him
to fourth on the all-time
PASS South winners' list,
just one win behind Jay
Fogleman.
In
qualifying, Tate Fogleman
bested Brandon Setzer for
his second quick qualifying
time of the season with a
lap of 16.473 seconds
(99.435 MPH). But, the top
10 qualifiers redraw would
not be kind to Fogleman,
moving him back to the ninth
starting position, while
fellow championship
contenders, Craig and Kodie
Conner, would move to the
front row for the start.
At the drop of the green
flag, Craig would quickly
move to the point, while
Fogleman was dicing his way
up through the field. The
first caution of the day
would wave on lap 14 for a
solo spin by rookie Charles
Barnes in turn four.
Craig would lead after the
restart, but by lap 20, he
was being closely pursued by
Roy Hayes and Fogleman. The
top three stayed that way
until Setzer joined the
fray, taking second from
Hayes with 40 laps to go.
Fogleman's early season
misfortune continued as he
began to drop back in the
second half of the race,
falling to ninth by lap 90.
The second caution of the
day would wave with 14 laps
to go when Fogleman slowed
to a stop with mechanical
problems in turn three.
After the final restart,
it was all Craig, as he
would lead the rest of the
laps to take the win over
Setzer, Ryan Moore, Conner,
Lee Tissot. Rounding out the
top ten were Gracie Trotter,
Jody Measamer, Max
McLaughlin, Hayes, and Jimmy
Doyle. Trotter's sixth place
finish on Sunday equals
Kenzie Ruston, Tayla
Orleans, and Sarah
Cornett-Ching as the best
finish by a female in PASS
competition.
The PASS
South Super Late Models will
be in action again on
Saturday, March 31 for the
13th Annual Easter Bunny
150, along with the SMRS
Tour Modifieds, in one of
the biggest races of the
season. The top five PASS
South finishers at Hickory
will receive guaranteed
starting positions for
either the Oxford 250 in
August or the inaugural
Commonwealth Classic 100 at
Richmond Raceway in October.

PASS
South to Headline "MegaShow"
at
Caraway Speedway On Sunday |
CHARLOTTE, NC (March
14) - After being delayed a
week due to weather, the Pro
All Stars Series (PASS)
South Super Late Models will
return to action Sunday
afternoon at Caraway
Speedway. The RGS Products
125 will pair two of the
regions premier touring
divisions as the PASS South
Super Late Models will be
joined by the season opening
event for the Southern
Modified Racing Series
(SMRS) Tour Modifieds. With
the last weekend's
cancellation, officials from
PASS and Caraway Speedway
decided to take this already
huge weekend of racing up
another notch by also
including the 602 Super
Limiteds, 602 Modifieds, and
Limited Late Models to
create a huge day of short
track action on Sunday.
Over the last two
seasons, Kannapolis, NC's
Matt Craig has been one of
the most dominant short
track drivers in the
country. In addition to
becoming the first ever
competitor to ever capture
two PASS South
championships, he has won
the last two races at
Caraway Speedway, including
in 2016 when he came back
from being two laps down.
"I've done good at
Caraway, ever since my first
Legends car race there, I
like it a lot," says Craig,
driver of the C&C Boilers
Sales & Service Chevrolet
#54. "It has hard breaking
and long straightaways. I
have to thank my team for
the cars they bring me to
the track. I'm not sure what
it is at Caraway, but we
always seem to have speed
there."
Craig will
have his work cut out for
him to make it three
in-a-row at Caraway on
Sunday, with a field packed
full of talented rookies
including "Mad" Max
McLaughlin, Gracie Trotter,
and Blaise Robertson. Fellow
rookies Greg Burgess and
Charles Barnes have also
filed entries. Not to
mention veterans like
Brandon Setzer, Tate
Fogleman, Roy Hayes, Kevin
Floars, JP Josiasse, Kodie
Conner, Jimmy Doyle, and
Ryan Moore, all hoping not
only to keep Craig out of
victory lane at Caraway, but
also to stop him from
capturing a third straight
PASS South championship.
"Another championship
would be unbelievable and
hopefully we can get it done
this year," says Craig. "It
sounds like there are going
to be a lot of competitive
cars chasing us this year."
All the action gets
under way on Saturday at
Caraway Speedway with
optional practice for all
competing divisions from 12
- 6 PM. On Sunday, practice
will begin at Noon, with
qualifying starting at 1:40
PM for the PASS South Super
Late Models and SMRS Tour
Modifieds, followed by main
events starting at
approximately 2:30 PM.
PASS Super Late Model
entry forms for the events
at Caraway, Hickory,
Thompson, Oxford Plains,
Beech Ridge, and the 45th
Annual Oxford 250 can be

PASS South Season To Begin
In Earnest With RGS
Products 125 At Caraway
Speedway |
CHARLOTTE, NC (March
1) - Following a successful
start to the 2018 PASS
National Championship at
Dillon Motor Speedway last
weekend, the Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) South Super
Late Model season will hit
high gear with the upcoming
RGS Products 125 at Caraway
Speedway. The RGS Products
125 will take place on
Sunday, March 18 at Caraway
and will pair the PASS South
Super Late Models with the
season opening 99 lap event
for the SMRS Tour Modifieds.
Entering his second
season competing in PASS
South will be Mill Village,
PA's Roy Hayes. After having
found success in Bandeleros,
Legends Cars, and Mini
Outlaws on dirt, Hayes moved
into the South's oldest
Super Late Model series in
2017, scoring four top 10
finishes and taking fifth
place in the final
standings.
"I felt
last year was a great
learning experience as a
driver running the full PASS
South schedule," says Hayes,
driver of the RGS Products
Chevrolet #15. "Our
expectations for this season
are to again compete in PASS
South and earn the respect
of my fellow competitors. We
would like to finish in the
top five in points,
hopefully win a race this
season, and just have fun
with my team and racing
family."
Hayes is
especially looking forward
to competing again at
Caraway Speedway on Sunday,
March 11. The newly turned
15-year-old driver considers
Caraway to be his home
track, having first competed
there in Limited Late
Models. Hayes started second
at Caraway last year, racing
with the leaders throughout
the race, before score his
first career PASS South top
10 finish. He hopes to take
advantage of his experience
there and perform well for
his sponsor.
"I'm
really excited to have my
primary sponsor, RGS
Products, supporting PASS,"
says Hayes. "It's great
having them as the title
sponsor for this race at
Caraway. I started my stock
car racing career at Caraway
and we have a new car ready
to go next weekend. PASS has
some of the best drivers in
the country and I'm very
honored to be part of the
series."
In addition
to the extreme horsepower of
the PASS South Super Late
Models and SMRS Tour
Modifieds, the Limited Late
Models, Chargers, and Mini
Stocks will all be in action
on Sunday, March 18 at
Caraway Speedway. PASS South
entry forms can be found at
