NEMECHECK - BELL
- PELTIER |
Christopher Bell
Makes Impressive Debut With
PASS South Win At Orange
County |
ROUGEMONT, NC (October 18) -
Making only his second start
in an asphalt stock car,
Oklahoma's Christopher Bell
dominated the second half of
the Orange County 150
presented by CV Products
Saturday night at Orange
County Speedway for his
first career Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) South Super
Late Model win. The victory
was the second of the 2014
PASS season for the Kyle
Busch Motorsports team to go
along with a win by Busch at
Canada's Autodrome Chaudiere
in August.
"This is
just unbelievable to come
out here and run with John
Hunter Nemechek and all of
these guys and come out on
top," said Bell after
scoring the win in his PASS
South Super Late Model
debut. "I can't thank all of
my guys enough. They took me
racing for the first time a
few weeks ago and I really
struggled. But, they
believed in me and stuck
with me and now here we
are."
In qualifying,
Preston Pelter took his
fourth straight quick
qualifying time with a lap
of 97.248 miles per hour
around the high banked, 3/8
mile speedway. In the top 10
qualifiers redraw, Jared
Irvan moved to the pole
position with Bell flanked
alongside and Peltier moving
back to start fourth.
On a brisk and breezy
night, Irvan led the field
into turn one, but was soon
overtaken for the top spot
by Bell's Toyota. John
Hunter Nemechek quickly
moved into second from the
sixth starting position and
set his sights on Bell. The
two drivers would swap the
lead back and forth several
times throughout the first
half of the race. Meanwhile,
Peltier dropped back through
the field, falling as far
back as 13th by lap 20.
The first caution of the
race would wave on lap 38
when the top 10 running cars
of Karl Weber and Jody
Measamer crashed entering
turn three. Just two laps
later, two-time Orange
County Speedway winner Roger
Lee Newton and Trey Jarrell
made contact entering turn
one sending Jarrell hard
into the outside wall. On
the restart, Bell continued
to lead with Joey Doiron
moving around Nemechek into
second. But, Doiron would
have problems on lap 49 as
his car careened hard into
the turn one wall putting an
early end to his night. Less
than 20 laps later, Doiron's
teammate Rich Gould driving
a second Woodman Racing
entry had a similar fate
ending his night along the
turn one wall as well.
Following a qualifying
infraction that resulted in
starting outside the top 20,
PASS South points leaders
Tyler Church and Cole Timm
steadily made their way
through the field in the
first third of the race and
into the top ten. By lap 59,
Timm was challenging Peltier
for a spot in the top five
followed closely by Church.
With Bell and Nemechek
continuing to pace the
field, Timm began to
backslide while Church was
surging, moving around Ryan
Moore for fourth with 61
laps to go. Church would
eventually make his way into
third before a mechanical
issue with 10 laps to go
sent him to the pits and out
of the race.
Bell and
Nemechek masterfully worked
lapped traffic over the last
half of the Orange County
150 with Bell stretching his
lead to as many as 15 car
lengths at times. In the
end, Bell cruised to his
first major stock car
victory by nearly a second
over Nemechek, Peltier,
Brandon Setzer, and Moore.
Harrison Burton finished
sixth followed by rookie
Lucas Jones, Brandon Ward,
Tyler Dippel, and Timm to
complete the top 10.
Kodie Conner took the lead
from Jeremy Haudricourt with
13 laps to go and held on to
survive a wild PASS Pro Late
Model race for his fourth
win of the season. Hickory
winner Nick Robinson led the
first 33 laps before a slip
in turn two allowed
Haudricourt and Conner to
move by. Robinson's night
got even worse from there,
crashing hard into the turn
one wall, along with Mason
Diaz, with seven laps to go.
Following Conner to the
checkered flag was Ryan
Krachun, John Holleman, Matt
Murphy, and Haudricourt.
In the USAC Eastern
Midget feature, Nikki
Carroll took his first
career win over Chris Lamb,
Scott Hunter, Tyler
Corriher, and Matthew
Lundstrum.
The PASS
South Super Late Models will
be in action again on
Saturday, November 1 as part
of the North-South Shootout
at Caraway Speedway.

Irvan
Eyes First PASS South Win
At
Orange County This Weekend |
CHARLOTTE, NC (October 14) -
With another season headed
into the record books over
the next month or so for the
Pro All Stars Series (PASS)
South Super Late Model
division, teams busily
prepare for their next
challenge coming up this
weekend in the Orange County
150 presented by CV Products
at Orange County Speedway.
Amongst them is the
Auramist-sponsored #28 team
of young Jared Irvan. The
third generation racer
currently sits third in PASS
South Super Late Model
points competing in his
first full season racing
full-bodied stock cars.
Under the guidance of
his father, 1991 Daytona 500
winner Ernie Irvan, Jared
has developed a style all
his own. Conspicuously
smooth and conservative,
especially for his young
age, Jared Irvan has been
knocking on the door of his
first victory in PASS South.
Last year while competing in
a limited schedule of
events, he came just nine
laps short of victory at
South Boston Speedway,
finishing second to eventual
winner Ross Kenseth. And,
this year, in addition to
finishing fourth in the
Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory
Motor Speedway, Irvan led
laps late in the race at
Southern National
Motorsports Park in July
before eventually finishing
in fifth. Those runs have
Irvan confident he can get
another good finish this
Saturday night at Orange
County Speedway.
"This year's been pretty
good, we've made some
changes over the last couple
of races and I think we've
got a real good chance to
come out and win the race,"
said Irvan. "Every time we
go back to a race track I
get better. Hopefully this
time at Orange County I can
go out and get a win."
Orange County Speedway
has produced some of the
most memorable finishes in
PASS South Super Late Model
history over the year. With
its steep banking on both
the straightaways and in the
turns, Orange County
provides multiple grooves
for drivers to choose from
as they pilot their 600+
horsepower machines.
In his first ever trip to
Orange County Speedway
behind the wheel of a PASS
South Super Late Model last
year, Irvan survived a wild
race to come home with a
solid eighth place finish.
Irvan believes that this
weekend's Orange County 150
presented by CV Products
could be equally as
challenging as last year's
event. But, it is a
challenge he thinks he and
his team will be ready for.
"Orange County is a lot
of fun, really fast and a
lot of action every second,"
said Irvan. "You can run
right up next to the wall
and get right next to it and
get everything you can get
every lap. You can win the
race from the bottom or you
can win it from the top,
wherever's faster for you."
Another great field of
PASS South Super Late Models
is expected for this
weekend's Orange County 150
presented by CV Products
including championship
contenders Tyler Church,
Cole Timm, Jared Irvan, and
Trevor Noles. Hometown
favorite Tate Fogleman will
be looking to defend his dad
Jay Fogleman's win in this
race a year ago. Preston
Peltier will be back as he
goes for his fourth straight
PASS South win, while
Brandon Setzer, Trey
Jarrell, Tanner Rumburg, and
Lucas Jones will seek out
their first career wins.
Veterans Brandon Ward, Jimmy
Doyle, Jody Measamer, and
Ted Mickelson return as they
look to get to victory lane
for the first time this
season.
Action at
Orange County Speedway will
get under way on Friday,
October 17th with rotating
practice for all divisions
from 3 - 6 PM. On Saturday,
October 18th, practice will
start at 1 PM, followed by
qualifying at 4:30 PM and
racing slated to start at 6
PM. The PASS South Super
Late Models will race for
150 laps, along with 50 laps
for the PASS Pro Late
Models, and 35 laps for the
USAC Eastern Midgets. |

PASS South
Racers Prep For Return
To Orange County |
CHARLOTTE, NC
(October 8) - As the 2014
Pro All Stars Series (PASS)
South Super Late Model
season enters the
homestretch, teams are busy
preparing for their next
challenge. The South's top
short trackers will tackle
the high-banked Orange
County Speedway near Durham,
NC for race #12 on Saturday,
October 18th. The Orange
County 150 will almost
certainly be a thriller if
past races are any
indication.
With the
exception of Hickory Motor
Speedway, no track on the
PASS South schedule has
hosted more events than
Orange County Speedway.
Since Wade Day won the
inaugural event there in
2006, nine different PASS
South drivers have gone to
victory lane at Orange
County throughout the years.
With his win at Orange
County in April, Roger Lee
Newton joined Preston
Peltier, Corey Williams, and
Trevor Sanborn as the only
drivers to win more than one
PASS South event at the
tough 3/8 mile oval.
The Fogleman name has been
synonymous with racing at
Orange County Speedway since
the 1960's. In his final
season as a full-time PASS
South competitor, Jay
Fogleman was finally able to
visit victory lane at his
home track and parlayed that
win in to the 2013 PASS
South Super Late Model
championship. Tate Fogleman
is the third generation to
race at Orange County
Speedway and would love
nothing more than to take
his first PASS South
checkered flag there in the
Orange County 150.
"My Dad started racing there
and so did my Grandpa and
we're hoping to draw a good
crowd of family and friends
and get a good finish," said
Fogleman, driver of the #8
Speedco Truck Lube & Tire
Ford. "We're really looking
forward to the Orange County
150 and hoping to get a good
practice in so we can get
the setup right and get a
good finish."
Following a successful
tenure in the PASS Pro Late
Model division, Fogleman
made the leap up to the PASS
South Super Late Models in
2013. Throughout a season
that saw its share of ups
and downs, Fogleman remained
consistent and finished
fifth in both the PASS South
and PASS National points
standings.
The 2014
season has seen Fogleman
mature as a driver and
challenge more consistently
for top five finishes,
particularly in the second
half of the year. Fogleman
followed up a sixth place
finish at South Boston
Speedway in June with a
career-best third place
finish at Southern National
Motorsports Park a month
later. Those finishes have
allowed Fogleman to become
more confident in his
abilities and in his Bull
City Race Cars team heading
back to Orange County.
"I think we finally
found out what our car likes
at all tracks basically and
we're starting to get good
finishes now that we've got
our setup right," said
Fogleman. "We're really,
really looking forward to
our race at Orange County
now that we've got our car
right and I think we're
going to get at least a top
five finish." Action at
Orange County Speedway will
get under way on Friday,
October 17th with rotating
practice for all divisions
from 3 - 6 PM. On Saturday,
October 18th, practice will
start at 1 PM, followed by
qualifying at 4:30 PM and
racing slated to start at 6
PM. The PASS South Super
Late Models will race for
150 laps, along with 50 laps
for the PASS Pro Late
Models, and 35 laps for the
USAC Eastern Midgets.
The Pro All Stars Series
is recognized as North
America's premier
sanctioning body for asphalt
Super Late Models and boasts
such marquee events as PASS
South's Easter Bunny 150 at
the historic Hickory Motor
Speedway, the Triple Crown
at Autodrome Chaudière, and
the legendary Oxford 250 at
Oxford Plains Speedway.
