Newton Takes
PASS South Thriller at
Orange County Speedway |
aROUGEMONT, NC
(April 5) – Roger Lee Newton
held off a furious last lap
charge by Trevor Noles that
saw Noles spin across the
finish line to win the 9th
Annual Orange Blossom
Special Saturday night for
the Pro All Stars Series
(PASS) South Super Late
Models at Orange County
Speedway. Newton’s second
Orange Blossom Special
victory puts him in elite
company joining Preston
Peltier as the only drivers
to ever win the event more
than once.
“I don’t
know what it is about this
place, but I love it,” said
Newton after ending a
winless streak dating back
to 2011. “He (Noles) hit me,
but that’s racing. It’s the
last lap and you do anything
to win. When he hit me, I
just nailed the gas and it
stuck. I don’t know what to
say, I just can’t believe
it.”
In qualifying,
PASS South Super Late Model
points leader Tyler Church
edged out his car owner
Peltier for the quick time
with a lap of 97.826 miles
per hour. Following the top
ten qualifiers redraw,
Church settled back into the
seventh starting position
while Newton and Brandon
Ward moved to the front row.
At the drop of the green
flag, Newton jumped out into
the lead, but his time up
front was short lived as
Trevor Noles sped by to take
the top spot on lap four. A
race long battle would ensue
throughout the event between
Noles and Newton for the
lead. The driver on the
move early on was Harrison
Burton, making his first
PASS South start at a track
his father, Jeff, competed
on many times early on in
his racing career. After
starting 11th, Burton had
made his way around Derek
Ramstrom for fourth just 14
laps into the race.
Following a spin by Tanner
Rumburg in turn one on lap
30, the first major accident
of the night occurred on the
ensuing restart when Randy
Gentry spun in turn three
and collected Bill Catania
and Kevin Powell. All three
drivers would be through for
the night.
On each
restart of the night, Newton
was able to get the best of
Noles and lead for a couple
of laps before Noles would
overtake him on the longer
runs of the race.
Just past halfway, veterans
Brandon Ward and Preston
Peltier saw their
potentially strong runs come
to an end. With 59 laps to
go, Ward and Peltier made
contact entering turn three
while battling for third and
their machines became
momentarily stuck together.
As their cars slowed,
several cars crashed while
trying to avoid them
including Joe Heigl, rookie
Trey Jarrell and local
favorite Chad Kendrick. Both
Ward and Peltier continued
until Peltier broke a part
entering turn 1 on lap 97
and backed his car into the
wall. Ward eventually fell
out due to steering
problems.
Derek
Ramstrom and Jody Measamer
also had problems late in
the race that ended their
nights early. Ramstrom
struggled with ignition
problems before backing into
the turn three wall on lap
121. Just three laps later,
Measamer pounded the turn
one wall after it appeared
that his throttle stuck.
On the final restart of
the race with 26 laps to go,
Newton again got the
advantage over Noles. With
Newton content to run the
high line around the 3/8
mile, high-banked speedway,
Noles would draw alongside
in the low groove lap after
lap. As Newton and Noles
raced for the lead, Church
methodically made his way to
third and was gaining on the
leaders.
As the three
leaders took the white flag,
Newton and Noles raced
side-by-side for the win
with Church close behind.
Entering turn three, Noles
drove down deep into the
corner pushing up into
Newton as they exited turn
four. Newton held on to take
the victory as Noles spun
across the finish line
falling to third in the
finishing order behind
Church. Tyler Dippel
finished fourth for his best
career PASS South Super Late
Model finish in front of
Cole Timm who finished
fifth. Rounding out the top
ten were Burton, Brandon
Setzer, Steve Halpin, Tate
Fogleman, and Tanner
Rumburg.
Lucas Jones
took the lead from Greg
Bohannon, Jr. with two laps
to go and went on to win his
first career PASS Pro Late
Model race. Early race
leaders Kodie Conner and
Walker Yates were eliminated
on lap 16 in a grinding
crash in turn four.
Following Jones and Bohannon
at the checkered flag were
Jacob Schneider, Matt
Murphy, and Zachary Dabbs.
Alex Pacheco led every
lap en route to the win in
the Legends division over
Dillon Spain, Grayson
Massey, Jake Spillers, and
Brandon McKenzie.
The
PASS South Super Late Models
and PASS Pro Late Models
will be in action along with
the Super Cup Stock Car
Series and Legends cars on
Saturday night April 19 at
Hickory Motor Speedway for
the 9th Annual Easter Bunny
150. |

Burton & Peltier
Join Impressive List of
PASS South Entrants for
Orange County |
CHARLOTTE, NC (April
3) – A second generation
racer and the series
all-time wins leader have
been added to an already
impressive list of
pre-entries for this
weekend’s 9th Annual Orange
Blossom Special at Orange
County Speedway for the Pro
All Stars Series (PASS)
South Super Late Models.
Harrison Burton, who has
also filed an entry for the
upcoming Easter Bunny 150 at
Hickory, and Preston Peltier
join a strong group of
contenders looking to take
the checkered flag in
Saturday night’s third race
of the 2014 season for North
America’s most diverse Super
Late Model series.
Burton will be making his
PASS South Super Late Model
debut this season in the Dex
Imaging/Cessna/Morton
Building’s #12 following a
successful 2013 which saw
him score a pair of PASS Pro
Late Model victories at
South Carolina’s Dillon
Motor Speedway. But, this
will not be his first foray
into PASS South racing,
having qualified for two of
the biggest events on last
year’s calendar, the Easter
Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor
Speedway and the Mason Dixon
Meltdown at Southern
National Motorsports Park.
Harrison’s father, Jeff,
a 21-time Cup Series winner
and former regular at Orange
County Speedway in the Late
Model Stock division, is
excited for the opportunity
to see his son race at one
of the places he cut his
racing teeth on. Orange
County also happens to be
near where he grew up at in
nearby South Boston, VA.
“Harrison is excited to
be running at Orange County
this weekend for sure,” said
Jeff Burton. “It’s a track
that I raced on a lot during
my time in Late Model
Stocks. It will be fun for
me to go back there to watch
my son race on that track
for the first time.”
Joining Burton as a recent
entrant to the Orange
Blossom Special will be a
driver who is no stranger to
victory lane in PASS South.
Preston Peltier has a total
of 10 career PASS South
Super Late Model wins, more
than any other driver in
series history. And, Orange
County Speedway definitely
has to rank up there as one
of Peltier’s favorite tracks
since his first series win
came there back in 2009.
“Chances are always good
for a victory at Orange
County,” said Peltier, who
also plans to compete in the
Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory
in a couple of weeks. “I
love the next two tracks.
There’s always good racing
at Orange County and
Hickory.”
Peltier’s
influence in PASS South is
at an all-time high with two
of his proteges, Tyler
Church and Cole Timm,
currently leading the PASS
South standings and
contending for wins at
nearly every stop on the
schedule.
“It’s good
that those guys are running
well,” said Peltier, who
will pilot the Sig’s Tire
Centers #26 at Orange County
Saturday night. “Right now,
all of our cars are set up
the same. Those two are just
outdriving me right now. I
plan to get my focus back
though at the Orange Blossom
Special.”
PASS South
points leaders Church, Timm,
and Jared Irvan are among
the contenders for victory
at Orange County. Local
favorite Tate Fogleman
carries the banner for Bull
City Race Cars following his
dad, Jay’s, exciting PASS
South win there last
October. Defending PASS Pro
Late Model champion Trevor
Noles will be back as he
looks to get his season on
track, along with fellow Pro
Late Model graduate Tyler
Audie, who will be making
his first start of the
season. Veteran Randy Gentry
returns after his
third-place finish to start
the season at Greenville
along with fellow South
Carolina driver Ted
Mickelson. Fellow veterans
Brandon Ward, Jody Measamer,
John Batten, Joe Heigl and
Jimmy Doyle have also filed
entries as they look to
build on strong runs in the
past at Orange County this
weekend. PASS North veteran
Derek Ramstrom will make the
tow down from Massachusetts,
while Canadian Steve Halpin
joins Kevin Powell behind
the wheel of the Woodman
Racing entries. Newcomers
Trey Jarrell, Joey Padgett,
Kiel Spaulding, and Brendon
Bock will all be making
their PASS South Super Late
Model debuts at this
weekend’s Orange Blossom
Special. Rookies Brandon
Setzer, Tyler Dippel, Matt
Daley, and Tanner Rumburg
fill out the slate of early
entrants seeking a win at
Orange County Speedway.
Action gets under way on
Friday, April 4th at Orange
County Speedway with
rotating practice from 3 –
6:40 PM for the PASS South
Super Late Models, PASS Pro
Late Models, and Legends. On
Saturday, April 5th, pit
gates will open at 11 AM for
the 9th Annual Orange
Blossom Special, with
rotating practice for all
divisions from 1 – 3:10 PM.
Qualifying will begin at 4
PM and racing will start at
6 PM, featuring 150 laps for
the PASS South Super Late
Models, 50 laps for the PASS
Pro Late Models, and 25 laps
for the Legends cars.
The Pro All Stars Series
is recognized as North
America’s premier
sanctioning body for asphalt
Super Late Models and boasts
such marquee events as PASS
South’s Easter Bunny 150 at
the historic Hickory Motor
Speedway, the Autobus La
Quebecoise Triple Crown at

It’s All About
The Fans As PASS South
Returns To Orange County
This Weekend |
CHARLOTTE, NC (April
1) – In less than a week,
the Pro All Stars Series
(PASS) South Super Late
Models and Pro Late Models
return to action at Orange
County Speedway as part of
the 9th Annual Orange
Blossom Special. Orange
County has provided some of
the most memorable races in
PASS South history and is a
favorite stop for fans and
racers alike. This year’s
race will once again be a
PASS Fan Appreciation event
with special admission
pricing featuring $25 per
vehicle load up to 6 people
or $10 general admission.
“The fans are what it’s
all about,” said PASS
President Tom Mayberry. “We
wouldn’t be able to have all
the great short track racing
we have in PASS without the
fans. Orange County has some
of the best fans in all of
racing and we thought that
PASS Fan Appreciation at the
Orange Blossom Special was a
way we could give back to
those who support us.”
With the semi-retirement
of Jay Fogleman, the
defending winner of the
Orange Blossom Special, the
focus has turned to a new
breed of drivers competing
for the PASS South title in
2014. Newcomers Tyler
Church, Cole Timm, and Jared
Irvan currently sit atop the
championship standings and
are only separated by 20
points. Church came on
strong late last year,
winning at Hickory Motor
Speedway in September and in
the Mason Dixon Meltdown at
Southern National
Motorsports Park in
November. Timm is one of the
hottest young prospects in
Super Late Model racing,
coming within two laps of
victory in the most recent
PASS South event at Dillon
Motor Speedway.
Third-generation racer Irvan
is in his first full season
competing with PASS after a
third place finish at
Caraway last May and a
runner-up finish to Ross
Kenseth at South Boston
Speedway in October. Fellow
newcomers Tyler Dippel,
Tanner Rumburg Trevor Noles,
Brandon Setzer, and Matt
Daley are all poised for
good runs in the Orange
Blossom Special after
getting off to a slow start
to begin the season.
While all of those drivers
are relatively new to PASS
South Super Late Model
racing, an impressive list
of even fresher faces will
be making their first
series’ starts ever this
weekend at Orange County
Speedway. Virginia’s Trey
Jarrell will be piloting the
Mark Reedy owned #12 in the
Orange Blossom after an
impressive debut in Super
Late Models this winter in
Florida. Jarrell’s resume
include Legends
championships and the 2013
Late Model Stock
Rookie-Of-The Year title at
Motor Mile Speedway. Like
Jarrell, Florida’s Joey
Padgett is also a graduate
of Legends car racing and
plans to debut at Orange
County. Padgett made a
handful of starts last year
in the PASS Pro Late Model
division.
Canadian
Steve Alpin will make his
PASS debut at Orange County
as a teammate in the Woodman
Racing entry to veteran
Kevin Powell. Alpin will be
driving the car Jay Fogleman
drove to victory lane in
last year’s Orange Blossom
Special. Brendon Bock will
also be making the long tow
down from Franklin Square,
NY for his first PASS South
start. Bock comes to PASS as
a Quarter Midget and Legends
champion in New York and
made his Super Late Model
debut earlier this year in
Florida. Although not a
complete rookie to PASS
racing, Orlando, FL’s Tyler
Audie returns to PASS
competition following his
first career Pro Late Model
win two weeks ago in his
native Sunshine State.
The entry list continues
to grow daily for the
South’s biggest Super Late
Model race of the weekend.
Local favorite Tate Fogleman
carries the banner for Bull
City Race Cars, while
Raleigh veteran Joe Heigl
takes the short trip to
Orange County looking to
build on his top five points
standing. Veteran Randy
Gentry returns after his
third-place finish to start
the season at Greenville
along with fellow Upstate
South Carolina driver Ted
Mickelson. Fellow veterans
Brandon Ward, Jody Measamer,
John Batten, and Jimmy Doyle
have also filed entries as
they look to build on strong
runs in the past at Orange
County this weekend.
Entry forms and the weekend
schedule for the Orange
Blossom Special at Orange
County Speedway can be found
at ProAllStarsSeries.com.
Entry forms are also posted
for the PASS North season
opener at Oxford Plains
Speedway and the 9th Annual
Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory
Motor Speedway.
Action gets under way on
Friday, April 4th at Orange
County Speedway with
rotating practice from 3 –
6:40 PM for the PASS South
Super Late Models, PASS Pro
Late Models, and Legends. On
Saturday, April 5th, pit
gates will open at 11 AM for
the 9th Annual Orange

rotating practice for all
divisions from 1 – 3:10 PM.
Qualifying will begin at 4
PM and racing will start at
6 PM, featuring 150 laps for
the PASS South Super Late

Brandon Ward
Seeks Redemption at PASS
South’s Orange Blossom
Special |
CHARLOTTE, NC (March
26) – As the 9th Annual
Orange Blossom Special
pproaches at Orange County
Speedway on April 5, fans
and racers alike are eagerly
awaiting a trip to one of
the favorite stops on the
Pro All Stars Series (PASS)
South Super Late Model
schedule. Several teams have
already tested at the
high-banked, 3/8 mile
speedway near Durham, NC.
While fans are equally
excited thanks to PASS Fan
Appreciation at Orange
County Speedway with special
admission pricing featuring
$25 per vehicle for up to 6
people or $10 admission per
person. But, one long time
PASS South team might be
even more anxious to get to
Orange County than all the
rest.
New Day
Motorsports and driver
Brandon Ward had high
expectations entering the
2013 PASS South campaign.
After all, the veteran team
was coming off their best
season ever following wins
at Wake County Speedway and
Anderson Motor Speedway and
finishing fourth in final
points. But what looked to
be such a promising season
quickly proved to be a
nightmare. Ward struggled to
get the handle on the
familiar #62, destroying the
team’s primary car at South
Boston Speedway in May after
his brakes failed entering
turn one.
But that
was just the beginning. In
August, veteran crew member
Mike “The Judge” Sabiston
lost his life in a freak
accident at Southern
National Motorsports Park.
Then, just two months later,
the team’s second car was
destroyed at Orange County
after a hard crash involving
Randy Gentry.
Now,
having survived virtually
everything the “racing
god’s” could throw at them,
Ward and the New Day
Motorsports team come to
this year’s Orange Blossom
Special closer and stronger
than ever before. Having to
prepare a whole new fleet of
cars did set the team back
causing them to miss the
first two races of the
season at Greenville-Pickens
Speedway and Dillon Motor
Speedway. But, Ward believes
the Winston-Salem, NC team
is more than ready and at
100 percent heading to
Orange County.
“We
had a lot to do and some
regrouping to do over the
winter, but all the guys
have worked really hard and
they’ve got a really good
car put back together,” said
Ward. “We wanted to run the
first couple of races, but
just weren’t quite ready.
We’ve tested at Orange
County and we’re going to be
ready to go on April 5.”
It may seem ironic that
Ward returns with the
kpmoto.com/Foothill Ford #62
at Orange County since it
was there last October where
the 2013 season came to such
an abrupt end. But,
following a successful test
at the track last Saturday
which saw the new car hit
the track for the first
time, Ward believes Orange
County could be the place to
get New Day Motorsports back
on track, so to speak.
“It’s close to home for
us and we’ll have a lot of
friends and family there
looking to have a good time
and put last year behind
us,” says Ward. “It’s a fast
race track and with the
banking there you can move
around a lot. You can pass
because you’ll see cars run
the top and bottom. You’ll
see crate cars be fast
there, but the built motor
cars are too. It’s just a
good race track that seems
to suit these PASS cars and
always put on a great race
for the fans.”
It is
shaping up to be another
great event for North
America’s most diverse short
track series as teams
continue to enter daily for
the Orange Blossom Special.
PASS South points leaders
Tyler Church, Cole Timm, and
Jared Irvan are among the
early entries. Local
favorite Tate Fogleman
carries the banner for Bull
City Race Cars following his
dad, Jay’s, exciting PASS
South win there last
October. Defending PASS Pro

Noles will be back as he
looks to get his season on

Tate Fogleman
Hopes To Continue Family
Tradition With PASS At
Orange County |
CHARLOTTE, NC (March
18) – When the Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) South Super
Late Models and PASS Pro
Late Models come to Orange
County Speedway in
Rougemont, NC, there is
always excitement. The
high-banked, 3/8 mile
speedway has hosted some of
the series’ most competitive
races ever since 2006. It is
a favorite stop on the
schedule for both fans and
drivers alike. But for
13-year-old PASS South Super
Late Model driver Tate
Fogleman, there might just
be a little extra incentive
to perform well as PASS
prepares to return to Orange
County for the 9th Annual
Orange Blossom Special on
April 5.
Being from
nearby Durham, NC, Fogleman
grew up in the shadows of
Orange County Speedway. Both
his grandfather, Kent, and
father, two-time PASS
National Champion Jay
Fogleman, have raced and won
at Orange County. So
naturally, anytime the
Foglemans race there it
attracts a lot of family and
friends.
“It’s a
really special place to us,”
said Tate Fogleman, driver
of the Speedco Truck Lube
and Tire Ford. “My dad’s
raced there for so long and
I won my first PASS Pro Late
Model race there. Orange
County’s close to home for
us so we’re hoping to get
some practice in so we can
get a good finish there in
April, if not the win.”
Last year, Jay Fogleman
claimed two victories on the
way to his second straight
PASS National Championship
and his first PASS South
Super Late Model title.
Ironically, his final win as
a full-time PASS South
driver came at Orange County
last October. As a rookie in
the series, Tate finished
fifth in points with two top
10s to his credit.
But, the 2014 season has
seen a shift for the Jfco
Motorsports team as more
focus will be given to
Tate’s budding career, while
Jay steps back and plans to
only compete in the PASS
National Series events. The
recent South Carolina Clash
at Dillon Motor Speedway was
a different experience for
both father and son as Jay
coached Tate throughout the
weekend of racing. And, with
nearly 30 years of racing at
Orange County Speedway,
that’s a combination that
could prove fruitful in this
year’s Orange Blossom
Special.
“My dad
gives me all of this advice,
but these tracks seem to
change every time we go to
them,” said Fogleman. “I
guess the easiest thing to
do is just go as fast as we
can every lap we’re out
there and make him as proud
as I can.” The 9th Annual
Orange Blossom Special will
once again be a PASS fan
appreciation event with
special admission pricing
featuring $25 per vehicle
for up to 6 people or $10
admission per person.

Orange Blossom Special at
