TWO IN A
ROW FOR TRAVIS BENJAMIN
EDGES
AUSTIN THERIAULT FOR OXFORD 250 WIN |
The
41st running of the Oxford 250 was a
crowd pleaser as sixty of the best
Super Late Model teams in the
country converged on the small town
of Oxford, Maine to participate in
the historic event. The fans were
treated to over seven hundred laps
of racing, with several teams
collecting checkered flags, but none
as happy and as excited as Travis
Benjamin, whom collected his second
straight $25,000 payday, plus lap
money.
Forty-four Super Late
Models lined up on the grid with
Concord, N.C. speedster, Preston
Peltier and Turner, Maine’s, Shawn
Martin filling the front row when
the green flag flew. Peltier jumped
to lead and held the point for the
first 21 laps with the exception of
lap six when Kelley Moore edged him
out at the stripe. Joey Doiron raced
by Peltier on lap 21 and held the
point for the next 66 laps with
Austin Theriault, Shawn Martin,
Scott Mulkern and Moore in tow.
Theriault held the lead through four
restarts before he and Travis
Benjamin pitted for tires and fuel
on lap 185, setting the stage for a
storybook ending. Cassius Clark took
over the lead from Theriault as pit
stops completely changed the lineup
around. DJ Shaw, Richie Dearborn,
Scott Moore and Johnny Clark were
all now in the top five and ready to
challenge for the lead. Clark held
the lead all the way until lap 220
when Richie Dearborn edged him to
the stripe when the final caution
waved.
Dearborn took the lead
at the green, but Benjamin and
Theriault were right on his heels.
Benjamin made his move on lap 227,
grabbed the lead and set sail
towards the checkers. His only
obstacles included heavy lapped
traffic, and the #57 of Theriault.
Theriault tried every move in the
books looking inside and outside,
but Benjamin would not be denied his
second Oxford 250 win in a row.
Theriault raced home second from his
sixth starting position, ahead of
Dearborn who actually had to take a
provisional to get into the event.
Dearborn started 40th on the grid.
Cassius Clark took home the 4th spot
ahead of OPS regular, TJ Brackett.
Rounding out the top ten were Tyler
Dippel, Derek Ramstrom, Ben Rowe,
David Oliver and Shawn Martin.
Heat checkers flew for Peltier,
Martin, Kelley Moore, Tim Brackett,
Daniel Hemric and Theriault. Consi
victors were DJ Shaw, Benjamin, and
Brent Dragon. David Farrington Jr.
was awarded the win in the Last
Chance Race as apparent winner
Travis King failed post race
inspection as his car was too low.

MARK LUCAS CAPTURES $1,000 TO WIN
MAYHAN
ANTIQUES & MORE PASS MOD SPECIAL
75 |
Mark
Lucas took advantage of another
driver’s displeasure to capture the
inaugural Mayhan Antiques & More 75
lap main event. Other support
division winners visiting Allen’s
Coffee Flavored Brandy victory lane
on day three of the Oxford 250
weekend included Josh Childs, Mathew
Bourgoine, and Kris Watson.
Joshua Brown was headed for an easy
win in the PASS Modified race, but
tangled with a lapped car around lap
50. Contact sent the #05 of Ron
Henry around in turn three bringing
out the caution. The field raced
back to green with Brown pulling
away once again. Mitch Miller raced
his way to second while Mark Lucas
and Andy Shaw battled for third.
Lucas raced by both Shaw and Miller
to take over the second spot, but
had nothing for Brown until Brown
was run high by Henry in turn four
allowing much of the field to race
by, handing Lucas the lead. Lucas
cruised to his second win of the
weekend, and the hefty $1,000
payday. Miller placed second ahead
of Shaw, Brown and Billy Dixon. |

NORTHEAST LEGEND
STEVE PARK ENTERS 2014
OXFORD 250 |
The 2014 edition of
the Oxford 250 just received
the entry blank from the
legendary Steve Park who
will be bringing his G Body
Parts, Sunoco, Super Late
Model to compete in this
year’s mega event at Oxford
Plains Speedway. Park, a two
time Sprint Cup Series
winner became the 45th
entrant for the race
scheduled for Sunday, July
20, 2014 at 2pm.
“I
have always wanted to
compete in the Oxford 250,
stated Park. This is one of
the most prestigious racing
events in the Northeast, and
to be a part of it in 2014
really excites me. I used to
attend this race with my dad
when I was younger, and I
always hoped to drive in
this event some time during
my life, and now thanks to G
Body Parts, Sunoco, New
England Racing Fuel and car
owner Dickie Woodman, we
will be there attempting to
add an Oxford 250 win to my
resume. I am looking forward
to coming up to the State of
Maine a little bit early to
enjoy what the Oxford area
has to offer. Some of my
great friends and supporters
from Key Parts have also
purchased a suite for the
Oxford 250 weekend, and I
plan on spending a lot of
time meeting and greeting
their Key Parts family. I
haven’t felt this excited in
a long time, it’s going to
be a great experience.”
New England Race Fuels,
John Holland is very excited
that they were able to help
pull this deal together with
Sunoco to support Steve Park
and the Dickie Woodman team
at the Oxford 250. Holland
said this about the
situation, “We are very
proud to be a part of
helping Steve Park return to
the Northeast to race at the
Oxford 250. Everyone knows
that Sunoco is a major
player in the motorsports
arena, and they are very
excited about Steve Park
once again racing up north.
Steve is a great spokesman
for the sport, and we love
his New England racing
heritage. He has worked hard
all his life to be the best
racer he could be, including
a pair of Sprint Cup wins,
and now we have the
opportunity to help support
his Oxford 250 efforts in
2014. This support fits
perfectly in Sunoco’s racing
plans.”
PASS
President, Tom Mayberry is
also excited about Park
coming to the Oxford 250.
“It’s always great to have a
driver with the credentials
of Steve Park enter your
race, but this one is extra
special as he is a
grassroots racer who paid
his dues here in the
Northeast. He has raced
everything from Go-karts to
Sprint Cup Cars and has been
successful in everything he
has competed in, and has
never forgotten where he
came from. I am extremely
proud to add Steve’s name to
the entry list of the Oxford
250.”
The 41st
edition of the Oxford 250
will take place on Sunday,
July 20th at 2pm featuring
250 green flag laps of
racing for the ultra fast
Super Late Models. A $1,000
to win PASS Mod race will
also highlight the card.
Oxford 250 weekend begins on
Friday night, July 18th with
the Sun Journal hosting the
PASS Mods, PASS Sportsman,
and several support classes
in action. Then a giant
night awaits race fans on
Saturday night as Dunkin’
Donuts presents the NEMA
Midgets & NEMA Lites, as
well as Round #2 of the
Dave’s Small Engine Repair,
PASS Northeast Late Model
Series. Several other
divisions will see action as
well.
Plenty of great
seats are still available
and tickets can be purchased
by contacting the OPS
office. For more information

Rookie Dippel
Taking PASS National Points
Lead To 41st Annual Oxford
250 |
NAPLES, ME (July 17)
– Just over a year ago,
Tyler Dippel had virtually
no asphalt racing
experience. On Sunday, the
Wallkill, NY rookie will
head into the 41st Annual
Oxford 250 with the points
lead in the Pro All Stars
Series (PASS) Super Late
Model National Championship
standings.
At just
14-years-old, Dippel is one
of the top young prospects
in short track racing, not
only on asphalt, but also on
dirt. Dippel cut his teeth
racing on the tough dirt
tracks of the Northeast and
has become one of the top
Small Block Modified drivers
in New York, competing at
tracks such as Middletown,
Accord, and Lebanon Valley.
And, he has not forgot his
dirt track roots, still
competing regularly when his
schedule allows.
But,
it is his experience racing
on the tough PASS South
Super Late Model tour in the
Carolinas and Virginia that
has allowed Dippel the
opportunity to come to
Oxford Plains Speedway with
a virtually guaranteed spot
in the 250. By virtue of his
strong runs at the first two
PASS National Series events
at Greenville-Pickens and
Hickory in the spring,
Dippel has the points as he
prepares for his first
Oxford 250.
“I’m
really excited, the 250 is
probably the biggest race
I’ve ever ran and I’m really
looking forward to it,” said
Dippel. “It’s closer to
home, I’m looking forward to
having pit stops, and like I
said, it’s the biggest race
I’ve ran so far.”
Unlike the shorter races he
was accustomed to on dirt,
Dippel believes his
experience racing 125 to 150
lap PASS South races will
prepare him for the test the
Oxford 250 is so famous for.
Dippel currently sits fourth
in PASS South Super Late
Model points, leading laps
at the prestigious Easter
Bunny 150 at Hickory and
finishing in the top five
three times so far this
season.
“The PASS
South races have helped me a
lot as far as learning how
to save my stuff and I think
we’re getting there and are
prepared for the 250,” said
Dippel. “Crew Chief Buggy
[Pletcher] always has a
pretty good car for that
race.”
Dippel will
definitely have his work cut
out for him as over 50 of
the best short track racers
in North America have
pre-entered for the 41st
Annual Oxford 250, but the
PASS Super Late Models will
not be alone in making this
weekend a celebration of
short track racing. A great
slate of divisions is set to
race starting on Friday,
July 18 with the PASS
Sportsman, PASS Modifieds,
Outlaw Sportsman, Street
Stocks, Rebels, Sport
Trucks, Cruisers and Ladies,
plus practice for the PASS
Super Late Models. On
Saturday, July 19 with the
PASS Super Late Models will
get three rounds of practice
followed by racing in the
evening for the PASS
Northeast Late Models, NEMA
Midgets, NEMA Lites, Outlaw
Sportsman, Street Stocks,
Wicked Good Racers, and
Classic Lights. On Sunday,
July 20, pit gates will open
bright and early at 7 AM
with a full day of on track
activities including
practice and heat race
action for the PASS Super
Late Models, followed by
features for the PASS
Modifieds, Outlaw Series,
Street Stocks, Legends, and
the 41st Annual Oxford 250. |
