Tom Oliver
PASS Mod Winner
at Beech Ridge

Gary Norris & Tom Oliver

Veteran racer Tom Oliver has a wealth of open wheel and Beech Ridge Motor Speedway experience, and he put both to good use Saturday night to win the PASS Mod feature at Scarborough Maine’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Oliver raced up from seventh on the starting grid to nab his first feature win of the season over Gary Norris Jr., Rob Herrick, Kenny Harison and Bill Dixon.

Dixon led the field to the green but an apparent missed shift sent the field scattering around him and Kenny Harrison into the lead. Harrison looked like the car to beat early on but he wound up on the rear of the field after a lap nine caution.

Dixon recovered just fine from his fudged start earlier and claimed the lead on the restart, with Oliver now second and 2007 Mod Champion Chris Staples third. Dixon and Oliver both know their way around the Ridge, and they put on a great side-by-side battle for the lead. Oliver finally edged ahead and took over the point on lap 27.

Dixon brought out the caution one lap later, spinning from the second spot after contact with Norris. Oliver kept his cool, battling Norris and Rob Herrick for the final thirteen laps to earn the hard fought victory.

The PASS Mods get back on track Saturday July 26th with a visit to Riverside Speedway in Groveton New Hampshire. For more information on the PASS Mods and all of the Pro All Stars touring series visit www.racewithpass.com

Troy Morse Snaps Lucas’ Win Streak

Naples ME – (June 23, 2008)  Bridgeton Maine’s Troy Morse put his Northeast Concrete Pumping PASS Mod on the pole for Saturdays PASS Mod race at Wiscasset Raceway and raced to victory in the forty lap feature event. The win was Morses' first of 2008.

Morse jumped out to an early lead and it took a lap seven caution to bring him back in reach of the field. On the restarts Morse and Kenny Harrison battled side by side but each time Morse prevailed. Harrison gave Morse all he could handle for the majority of the race, but lost the second spot to Gary Norris Jr. with one lap to go. Harrison would settle for third; Andy Shaw and Steve Bennett Jr. rounded out the top five.

Morse’s victory ended a three race win streak for point leader Mark Lucas, who came across the stripe seventh in the fifth event of the ten race PASS Mod schedule.

The PASS Mods will be back on track Saturday July 5th at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine.

Schedule Set for PASS Mod Division

Naples ME - The Pro All Stars (PASS) Mod division will kick off its fifth season in 2008 with a ten race confirmed schedule that will see New England's most affordable asphalt open wheel division in action at four of Maine and New Hampshire's toughest ovals.

Beech Ridge Speedway in Scarborough Maine will play host to the PASS Mods on three occasions; the season's lid lifter on April 19th, July 5th, and the big PASS 400 weekend on Friday September 19th through Sunday September 21st. Wiscasset (ME) Raceway will welcome the PASS Mods on May 18th, June 15th and August 16th and host the grand finale championship event on October 4th. Groveton New Hampshire's Riverside Speedway fans can look forward to two PASS Mod appearances on May 10 and July 26th. A May 3rd appearance at Speedway 95 in Hermon Maine will round out the 2008 card. One additional race date is currently under negotiation at press time.

Twenty two drivers earned PASS Mod points in 2007, a 25% increase from 2006 and almost 50% greater than the 2005 season. It’s a trend that pleases PASS President Tom Mayberry. "We've worked hard to build the PASS Mod division, and slowly but surely the racers have responded. It's a fast, exciting and relatively affordable way to participate in a touring series, and the PASS Mods put on a great show for the fans. I fully expect the steady growth to continue for 2008 and beyond."

The 2008 PASS Mod rules are on line now at www.proallstarsseries.com. Technical questions may be directed to Scott Reed at 207-625-3230 between the hours of 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

PASS Modifieds Put On an All Star Show at All-Star

(Naples, ME – October 6, 2007) The PASS Modifieds were led to the green by Tim Churchill in the #66 and Scott McDaniel in the #14 with the #33 of Bill Dixon close behind. Dixon lost a tire and brought out a yellow on lap 4, putting a quick end to what was looking like a good day.

By lap 10, Gary Norris, Jr in the #03 had worked his way to the point and was setting sail, looking for his fourth win of the season.   However, the #1 of Chris Smith, the most recent winner at The PASS 400 Weekend at Beech Ridge, had other ideas, and on lap 18 he took over second.

At halfway, it was Norris, Smith, the #63 of Tom Oliver, and the team cars of the championship chase leader Chris Staples in the #5 and Mark Lucas in the #9. Jason Taylor in the #8, currently in fourth in the points chase, was coming on.

A quick yellow for a tangle between Scott McDaniel and Ron Gooden, Jr in turn three on lap 24 tightened the field. On the restart, Norris pulled out to a three car-length lead, but Smith wasn’t finished for the day. With ten to go in the 40-lap feature, Smith was knocking on Norris’ back door. Lucas, Staples, and Taylor were mixing it up behind Oliver who was third patiently waiting for Smith and Norris to sort it out.

At the checkers, it was Norris for win number four, Smith a fender behind, Oliver third, Lucas by a foot over Staples,  and Taylor right on Staples at the line for sixth.

NORRIS NOTCHES MOD VICTORY on 6/17

Gary Norris, Jr. barely edged out defending PASS Modified champion Chris Staples for the victory in that division’s 40-lap feature race. It was a good, clean finish for both Maine racers.

“We were having fun,” said Norris. “If he wanted the bottom [to pass for the lead], he could have it.”

“That was a lot of fun,” said Staples. “He gave me all of the room in the world [on the bottom], but the inside was a little faster.”

Chris Smith has a bird’s eye view of the battle and finished in third. Troy Morse and Chad Dow rounded out the top five finishers.

TAYLOR GETS SEASON GOING WITH
SPEEDWAY 95 VICTORY

After starting out his PASS Modified season with finishes of 11th and 13th at Beech Ridge and Speedway 95 respectively, Jason Taylor wanted to jump start his year a little bit when the series visited Speedway 95 for the second time this past weekend.

Taylor did just that, by driving his #8 Modified to victory lane ahead of Richie Morse and Mark Lucas.  2006 PASS Modified champion Chris Staples finished fourth.  Steve Bennett, Jr. rounded out the top five finishers.

Taylor now joins Kenny Harrison and Gary Norris as PASS Modified winners this season.  The tour returns to action on June 17th at Unity Raceway (ME).

PASS Outlaws, Mods and Sportsman to End Their Seasons at White Mountain Motorsports Park
Newly Announced October Event Will Also Include a Strictly Stock Open

NAPLES, ME (May 1, 2007) – Competitors in three of the Pro All Stars Series divisions in the Northeast will have one final mountain to climb before wrapping up their championship battles this year – literally.

PASS has announced a season-ending event for the PASS Outlaw Late Models, PASS Modifieds and PASS Sportsmen to be held on October 14th at White Mountain Motorsports Park (NH). The high-banked quarter mile oval already has two PASS North Super Late Model events on their docket this year, with races scheduled for that division on May 26th and September 15th.

At White Mountain, the Outlaw teams will headline the show with a 100 lap-feature, the Sportsman will have a 75-lap feature and the PASS Modifieds will go 40 laps in their feature event.

“Our Super Late Model teams love going to White Mountain,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry. “The teams in the other divisions have been asking if they could have a race there as well, so we put this weekend together. It should be an exciting show with championships on the line.”

A 40-lap open competition Strictly Stock race will also be a part of the show. The rules for that event will be the same as for the open show for the class as part of the annual PASS 400 weekend at Beech Ridge.

Before the White Mountain race comes around, there will be plenty of other racing for PASS fans.

The PASS North Super Late Model season will kick off with a doubleheader weekend in early May. On Saturday, the tour will open their year at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME) on May 5th before heading to Speedway 95 for a Sunday afternoon show on May 6th.

The PASS Outlaw Late Models and PASS Modifieds will also be a part of the Beech Ridge opener. The Modifieds will join the Super Late Models at Speedway 95 as well.

The PASS Sportsman Series debuts on May 27th at Speedway 95. The PASS South Super Late Model tour resumes their season on June 2nd at Anderson Speedway (SC).

CHRIS SMITH GOES ON PASS MODS TOUR
Chris Smith has proven himself to be a pretty good wheelman at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME) – winning the track’s Limited Sportsman championship in 2003 and 2004, and coming just one point shy of a third title this past season.  Now, Smith is going on tour with a new PASS Modified ride.

Smith will drive a car owned by Jimmy Hoyt, who won a Limited Sportsman title as a car owner at Beech Ridge in 1999 with David Oliver behind the wheel. The team has bought the former #99 driven by Dana Grover and is ready to race.

“This is going to be a new experience, racing for someone else,” said Smith. “I’ve always owned and worked on the cars I’ve driven. Now I won’t have to worry about everything that goes on with the car anymore. I’m really looking forward to it. There’s a lot of talent in the PASS Modified with several past champions racing there. It should be a pretty competitive year.”

Although Smith has stuck primarily to Beech Ridge, he has gone on the road with his Limited Sportsman before and several of the tracks on the PASS Modified schedule won’t be foreign to him.

“I’ve raced at Beech Ridge, Canaan and Unity before. There are a few new tracks for me and I’d like to try those out…especially Riverside. I’ve never raced on a quarter-mile oval like that before.”

The PASS Modified season kicks off on April 21st at Beech Ridge.

New Faces, Returning Veterans Preparing
for 2007 PASS Modified Schedule

NAPLES, Maine (Feb. 23, 2007) - As temperatures here in the frigid northeast hover in the single digits and snow continues to fall, work inside the area's countless race shops has reached a hectic pace as another season quickly approaches.

A portion of that activity is fueling growth in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Modified division, as several new teams are busy preparing for what is expected to be a highly-competitive 2007 season for the open-wheeled touring series. As these teams gear up for the series’ third season, enthusiasm runs high as car counts rise while an influx of both experienced and young drivers brings new depth to the growing division.

Among the new faces is Maine short track veteran Tom Oliver. The Windham native joins the series with vast experience in both full-bodied and open-wheeled machines. Oliver's recent on-track exploits include a limited schedule in a division formerly known as Limited Sportsman at local tracks. Much of Oliver's experience comes from years of competition at the famed Beech Ridge Motor Speedway piloting open-wheeled modifieds.

Also joining the modified series ranks for the upcoming season is multi-time Oxford Plains Speedway Limited Sportsman champion Kenny Harrison. Teamed with car owner Ken Farley, these two have their sights set squarely on giving defending series champion Chris Staples a run for the championship.
Car owner Jeff Rhodes also has hopes of getting his modified completed and into competition for the 2007 season. His driver is anxious to get back on track and tackle the new experience of open-wheeled competition. New Hampshire-based chassis builder Sam Gooden has started construction of a new PASS modified series machine with plans to have his son, Ronald Gooden Jr., at the wheel. The team hopes for a speedy run through the learning curve in 2007.

After a few strong runs during a limited schedule in 2006, Outlaw Late Model division race-winner Gary Norris will be piloting the Jeff Rich-owned modified full-time in 2007. The hard-charging Norris says he is excited about having the opportunity to make a run for the championship.

"We learned a lot about the car last year," said Norris. "We hope to pick up right where we left off in the car's performance in 2006. We had a fast car at a few events and now we can build upon those results."
With only a handful of starts among them both, Rob Herrick and Dennis Scribner have stated intentions of taking on the full schedule for 2007. Herrick, of Old Orchard Beach, came from the back to score an impressive second place finish at his home track of Beech Ridge in just his second series start. Scribner, of Otisfield, who made two attempts in 2006, said recently that his schedule should permit him to race full-time with the series for the upcoming season.

Former PASS Modified division champion Mark Lucas (2004) has stated his hopes of getting back behind the wheel in 2007. After competing weekly in the Super Late Model ranks, Lucas has expressed interest and is seeking options to return to the series for 2007.

Staples, of Brunswick, Maine, will be back to defend his title. Staples and the entire Dallas Oil-sponsored team are looking not only to defend their modified title, but are also planning to chase the Outlaw Late Model series championship. The multi-time race winner will be the odds-on favorite to repeat in the Mods, yet he'll face some tough competition in 2007.

Jason Taylor is one of those drivers hoping to contend for the crown this year. The Searsmont, Maine native has competed in every race since the series inception. In both 2004 and 2006, he came up just one spot shy in the final points standings. Hot off his victory in the season finale at Unity, Taylor looks to carry that momentum into the 2007 season.

Multi-time track champion Richie Morse of Waterford will be back to continue where he left off in 2006. Scoring wins at Beech Ridge and Canaan USA respectively, Morse looks to improve upon his fifth place finish in the points in the Wilson Excavation sponsored entry. Troy Morse, the 2006 PASS Modified Rookie of the Year, will return in 2007 with hopes of improving upon his impressive third-place effort in the final standings. Morse capped off his season-ending run with podium finishes in the final five events, which included both modified events on PASS 400 weekend. The sharp-looking No. 6 machine is a proven show winner and is expected to be on hand for Racin’ Preview 2007, slated for Feb. 23-24 at the Portland Expo.

Connecticut-based racer Glenn Boss has filed for his 2007 PASS competition license. Boss has been a regular competitor at Thompson (CT) in the weekly modified division. For 2007, he looks to bolster his resume with some touring series experience behind the wheel of his familiar No. 55 machine.
Series regulars Stephen Bennett Jr., Dana Reed, Greg Ellis and Jeremy McCormick are expected back in 2007 along with others too numerous to mention.

The 13-race 2007 schedule takes the series to tracks in Maine and New Hampshire. They appear as part of a full card of PASS racing which includes the Super Late Model North division, the Outlaw Late Models and the new PASS Sportsman division in combined events throughout the year.
