Staples Seals
the Deal |
Scarborough ME (May 2) Chris Staples took the lead from DJ Shaw on
lap 129 of Saturday's Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North super late
model feature at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and led the final 21
laps to earn his first PASS super late model win. The 2007 PASS Mod
champ beat Adam Bates to the stripe by 1.022 seconds. Kelly Moore
finished third, Shaw faded to fourth and Derek Ramstrom raced home
fifth.
Matt Frahm and Derek Ramstrom lined up on the front row and Ramstrom
took control of the thirty-one car field early on. Ramstrom ran away
from the field for the first third of the race with Cassius Clark up
to second and Staples sitting third. Shaw began his run to the front
on a lap 48 restart, making an impressive outside move from fourth
to the lead in the course of three laps. Shaw led the way for the
next 79 laps, but Staples was lurking in second, waiting patiently
to pull the trigger on his Dallas Oil number five. The opportunity
came on the race's final restart on lap 129 as Staples held his
ground on the outside and worked his way around Shaw for his first
PASS super late model win.
Cassius Clark, Johnny Clark, Ben Rowe, Aaron Ricker and Marty
Prevost finished in positions six thru ten. Eighteen of the thirty
one starters finished on the lead lap. Matt Frahm, Derek Ramstrom
and Johnny Clark were the heat winners; Bill Rogers and Scott
Chubbuck captured the consolation rounds.
Dan McKeage and Mike Landry staged a battle for the 75 lap PASS
Sportsman win, and in the end it was 2007 Sportsman Champion McKeage
in victory lane, Landry a close second and Clyde Hennessey Jr.
third. Shane Tatro and Nate Leavitt completed the top five. Richie
Morse, Nate Weston and Mike Landry won the heat races.
Gary Norris took the lead from the pole in the 40 lap PASS Mod
feature and was never headed. Andy Shaw chased Norris to the
checkers for second and Jerry Harrison earned third with Dan Somes
fourth and Glenn Bradbury fifth. Norris and Somes won the qualifying
races.
PASS South super late model competitor Jay Fogleman made the trip
north to check out the Ridge in preparation for the September 12-13
PASS 300 weekend, round two of the PASS National Championship
series. Fogleman picked up a ride in Scott Reed's PASS Mod, but a
cut tire ended his charge to the front in the Mod feature.
PASS North takes the weekend off before returning to action at Unity
(ME) Raceway on Saturday May 16th. All the latest Pro All Stars news

PASS Racers Ready for The Ridge |
NAPLES, ME (April 28) - The Pro All
Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models, Mods and Sportsman will
all converge on Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this Saturday May 2 for
their second tilt of 2009, and there's several teams with momentum
on their side and a few that are looking for redemption after a
tough day at the Speedway 95 opener.
Johnny Clark (SLM) and Steve Bennett Jr. (Mods) and Carey Martin
(Sportsman) went home winners in the season's lid lifter, and they
have to feel good about their chances at Beech Ridge Saturday.
Richie Dearborn led the most laps (84) at 95 and he'll be looking to
lead lap 150 at Beech Ridge. Kelly Moore can hear the cars on the
speedway from his race shop and he's right at home at The Ridge.
Cassius Clark is on top of the points after finishing second to the
other Clark at 95, and he'll be looking for his first trip to
victory lane since 2007.
DJ Shaw, Ben Rowe, and Travis Benjamin all had sub-par performances
in the season opener and will look to rebound on Saturday, as will
Andy Shaw who lost a rear end in his PASS Mod while out in front of
the field.
Carey Martin and Dan McKeage and Richie Morse finished 1-2-3 in a 75
lap PASS Sportsman thriller, and you can expect more of the same
from three of the toughest racers around, in any division.
Steve Knowlton will be making his first start of 2009 in the Ciotti
#10, as will Matt Frahm and Bill Rodgers. Shawn Turple and John
Fleming are both making the long tow from the Canadian Maritimes
.Expect a few of the Beech Ridge regulars and some other surprise
entries to roll into the pits for Saturday's season opener.
There's practice for all PASS and Beech Ridge divisions on tap for
Thursday and Friday. Gates open at noon and rotating practice will
run from 2:00 until 7:00 PM each day. The grandstands will be open
to the public free of charge. On race day the pit area opens at
10:00 and the front gates will swing open at 11:30. The qualifying
races go green on Saturday at 3:00 PM, followed by 265 laps of green
flag feature racing.
