Lap Leader Programs
Open for the
Oxford 250 & All
That’s Metal 300 |
|
Oxford,
ME and
Naples, ME
--
Officials at
Oxford
Plains
Speedway
(OPS) and
the Pro All
Stars Series
(PASS)
announced
today that
the popular
lap leader
programs are
officially
open for
their two
marquis
events in
2024, the
Oxford 250
and the All
That's Metal
Celebration
of America
300. The
Oxford 250
will have
the
traditional
$100 laps
while the
300 will
feature $50
lap
sponsorships
up for
grabs. Those
wishing to
participate
will be
given the
option of
the same
laps in both
races when
available.
The lap
leader
program was
introduced
in the 1981
Oxford 250
as a way to
add a unique
twist to the
strategy of
a long
distance
race. The
initial
program paid
$50 per lap
to the
leader,
before
growing to
$100 per lap
in 1984 and
where it has
stayed since
that time.
This year's
early
January
opening
marks
earliest
launch ever
for the lap
leader
program.
"With
two big
events at
Oxford this
year we
wanted to
get a jump
start on
filling up
these laps,"
Said PASS
President
Tom
Mayberry.
"These
programs are
a good way
to add in
some
strategy to
a long
distance
race and in
some cases
there are
some low
budget teams
that earn a
great payday
by leading a
bunch of
laps, which
really helps
them."
Every single
lap of the
past two
Oxford 250s
were sold
for the 49th
and 50th
annual
edition of
the late
summer
classic, and
officials
with OPS and
PASS hope to
accomplish
the feat
again for
both of
these races
in 2024.
Laps
sponsors are
made
available to
businesses
for
advertising
purposes, so
those
sponsoring 3
lap blocks
or more are
able to
include a
logo and
number or
link on the
leaderboards.
Oxford 250
laps at $100
will go
directly to
the leader
of that lap
while the
$50 laps for
the 300 will
see $25 to
the leader
$25 to help
support the
purse.
Laps are
also offered
to
individuals
who wish to
send a
message of
support to
their
favorite
driver,
celebrate a
birthday, or
even in
memory of a
loved one.
All lap
sponsors are
displayed on
the OPS and
PASS
websites and
in person at
the speedway
with a
billboard in
the main
concourse.

Open Comp 200 Slated
for
Friday of 250
Weekend
|
Jan. 2 -
Naples, ME --
Officials at the Pro
All Stars Series
(PASS) and Oxford
Plains Speedway
(OPS) have announced
another marquis
event as a part of
the 51st annual
Oxford 250 weekend
August 23-25. A
$10,000-to-win open
competition 200 lap
event for Super Late
Models will the
headline the Friday
card night of the
biggest weekend of
the year.
"We wanted to give
teams another big
race with big money
as a part of the
biggest weekend of
the year," said PASS
President Tom
Mayberry. "Adding in
the twist of an open
competition will
make strategy and
ingenuity a factor
in the outcome of
the race."
A
few minimal rules
will be enforced by
technical
inspectors, allowing
teams to think
outside the box on
both strategy,
setups, and overall
package. All cars
will weigh 2750 with
58% left side
weight, have a
template style body
with a clear
spoiler, a tread
width no more the 66
inches, no aluminum
engine blocks, one
carburetor, and the
PASS Hoosier tires
without tire
softener.
With the addition of
the 200 lap Open
Competition race,
PASS and OPS now
feature four big
marquis races at the
Rte. 26 oval; The
Celebration of
America 300 in July,
the aforementioned
200, the Oxford 250,
and PASS 400 weekend
in October. Further,
Super Late Model
racers will have a
150 lap event on
August 4th and a 100
Oxford 250 qualifier
on August 11th
meaning every SLM
race in the month
August will be extra
distance.
"2024 is a big year
for PASS and OPS.
After so many
weather issues last
season, we wanted to
put together a
schedule that would
give our racers a
chance at some
longer races for
bigger money," said
Mayberry. "We think
the addition of the
open rules race is
just another way to
do exactly that."

Update
on
"Bottle Cap Crate"
2024 SLM
Engine Options |
Dec, 27 -
Naples, ME - Officials
at the Pro All Stars Series
(PASS) provided an update
today on the new "Bottle Cap
Crate" engine option that
will be available for all
PASS competitors for the
2024 season. The "Bottle Cap
Crate" option was rolled out
to competitors in early
November and sales have been
brisk.
PASS President
Tom Mayberry commented about
the new engine package
option, "We are really.
really happy with the
initial round of orders for
these motors. We have
already had 15 or 16 teams
order an engine, and we are
getting calls and emails
almost every day for more."
Each engine
purchased through the PASS
sealed engine program comes
straight from GM to the PASS
approved engine builder, LCM
Racing Engines, for a dyno
break-in and test. LCM sets
the timing, performs a
4-hour break-in procedure,
and then seals each motor
with TWO PASS-specific seals
registered with the
sanctioning body. Teams
simply provide their own
fuel pump and distributor
and then can pick up a race
ready engine to drop into
their cars and go.
"We felt like it was
important to provide a good
break-in procedure to verify
that each engine is
performing at its optimum
level when it leaves the LCM
Engine Shop," Said Mayberry.
"LCM has agreed to do this
at a discounted rate so we
can keep the total cost to
teams under $10k."
Teams running the "Bottle
Cap Crate" option will
be afforded a 25 lb. weight
break at every track on the
PASS schedule, with
additional breaks at
Thompson and New Hampshire
Motor Speedway TBD.
Mayberry went on to say
there will be another order
placed with GM within the
next month or so to
accommodate the ever growing
interest for both the PASS
tour and weekly competition
at Oxford Plains Speedway.
The 602 "Bottle Cap"
crate motor option for PASS
MODS was also rolled
out less than a month ago
and interest has been high
there as well. "We had one
driver order one right away,
and we have had several more
calls from drivers in need
of a fresh motor who want to
order very soon," said
Mayberry. "PASS MODS race a
little less than the SLM's
so an engine may last a team
a little longer. But as they
wear out, it's a great way
for them to get a sealed
motor and get a weight
break. It's the same engine
they are already running,
just with a seal so we know
it has not been tampered
with."
To
place your order, please
contact the Offices of PASS
at (207) 693-6497 or

PASS Releases 2024
Schedules
For
All Three Touring
Series
|
Naples ME --
Officials with the
Pro All Stars Series
(PASS) announced
schedules for their
Super Late Model
division, the New
England Super
Modifieds (NESS),
and the PASS MODS.
Forty points-paying
dates from April to
October spread
across the three
touring series
highlight a busy
2024 campaign for
the premier
sanctioning body in
the Northeast. The
PASS SLM tour will
have 16 race dates
in four different
states, plus a pair
of races on March
15th and 16th at
Hickory Motor
Speedway in North
Carolina. The
high-powered NESS
series will contest
12 races, with as
many as four more to
be added to the
schedule in coming
months. PASS Mods
will compete in a
12-race series
throughout the
season and all three
tours will play a
major role in the
51st annual Oxford
250.
"This is
the majority of our
schedule for 2024,"
said PASS president
Tom Mayberry. "There
are a few other
things we are
looking at that will
come out soon, but
we wanted to get
schedules out as
quickly as possible
so teams can make
their plans."
Pro All
Stars Series Super
Late Models
The 16 race PASS
North Super Late
Model points
schedule will be
highlighted by the
51st annual Oxford
250, a 4th straight
trip to New
Hampshire Motor
Speedway, and the
return of Star
Speedway to the
schedule.
One
other new addition
that is catching the
ear of many and
creating a buzz is
the special
Celebration of
America with a
300-lap contest
slated for Tuesday
July 2nd and
Wednesday July 3rd
at Oxford Plains
Speedway (OPS),
paying a staggering
$40,000 to win.
Additionally, Sunday
May 5th will feature
a 100-lap qualifier
to that 300 lap
contest slated for
early July.
"We wanted to add
another really big
premier race to our
schedule and we
couldn't think of a
better time to do it
then around the 4th
of July week so fans
and people could
come and camp and
enjoy some top-notch
racing in a mid-week
program," said
Mayberry. He went on
to point out that
the SLM's would be
dormant the
following weekend,
giving teams a
chance to spend a
weekend away from
the track if they
chose.
PASS
also makes its
return to Star
Speedway on June
22nd and a second
visit on September
13th as a part of
the Star Classic
weekend. Also on the
schedule are two
visits to Thompson
Speedway Motorsports
Park for the
Icebreaker in April
and the World Series
in October, three
visits to popular
While Mountain
Motorsports Park,
four other visits to
series hub OPS, and
single visits to
Seekonk Speedway and
Thunder Road
Speedbow. One other
change is the annual
PASS 400 weekend at
Oxford Plains
Speedway will also
become THREE
separate points
paying races and
purses.
The
traditional trip to
Hickory Motor
Speedway for a pair
of 150 lap contests
will kick off the
racing season March
15th and 16th. While
this pair of races
is not a part of the
PASS North points
schedule, it will be
a part of the SLM
National schedule
which will be
finalized at a later
time.
"We
tried to keep a good
balance of races
while being mindful
of travel but at the
same time getting to
the tracks that seem
to be most popular
for teams," said
Mayberry.

New England
Supermodified Series
NESS 2024 Information Page
The New England
Supermodified Series
is set to embark on
its third season in
2024 with a 12-race
schedule, plus a
possible four more
dates that build
upon the last two
successful years.
With car counts
climbing and
interest at an
all-time high, this
is the year for the
upstart series to
make some moves
forward. NESS will
also boast two big
races on their
schedule with a
visit to Star
Speedway for the
legendary Star
Classic, along with
a $10,000 to win
race slated for July
3rd at Oxford Plains
Speedway.
"After two years of
steady growth we
thought it was time
to shake things up a
little bit and give
the NESS Series a
couple of big
races," said
Mayberry. "We are
really pleased with
the progress, and
interest is
increasing every
month."
The
12 race NESS
schedule will see
three trips each to
Oxford Plains
Speedway and White
Mountain Motorsports
Park. Also on the
schedule will be a
pair of races at
Thompson Speedway
Motorsports Park,
Star Speedway, and
Thunder Road
Speedbowl in
Vermont. Mayberry
went on to point
out, "While we
wanted to expand the
schedule a little
bit, we also still
wanted to be mindful
of travel and
expenses. NESS was
founded on a
principal of cost
control so we always
need to stay near
our home base and
with mostly single
day shows."
Standing tall in the
NESS schedule is the
September 14th date
at Star Speedway for
the 59th annual Star
Classic. NESS will
make its first
appearance at the
race that is rich in
big block
Supermodified racing
history. Well-known
drivers like Bentley
Warren and Russ Wood
boast victories at
the tight 1/4 mile
track in Epping New
Hampshire.
Additionally, the
July 3rd race at
Oxford Plains
Speedway will carry
a $10,000 to win
purse as the NESS
series participate
in the 1st annual
300 mid-week special
at the famed, tricky
3/8 mile oval in
Oxford.
Four
dates are still TBD
and may be added at
a later time. July 2
and August 23rd are
being evaluated as
potential additional
races for the series
giving the NESS tour
a pair of
back-to-back race
dates.
With
the balance of the
schedule slated for
Thompson Speedway
Motorsports Park,
White Mountain
Motorsports Park,
and Thunder Road
Speedbowl, the NESS
series has cornered
the market in unique
and renowned venues
in the Northeast.

that keeps the
touring series a bit
closer to home base
then in recent
years. 2024 will see
a pair of races at
popular White
Mountain Motorsports
Park, two races at
Star Speedway for
the first time in
many years, a visit
to Thunder Road
Speedbowl and the
balance anchored by
home track Oxford
Plains Speedway. The
series will also
increase purses
again for the second
time in the last 12
months with 11 races
paying $1000 to win.
The PASS MODS will
also boast their own
stand-alone 100 lap
race paying a $2000
to win on July 6th
at OPS as they will
be the headline
division at the
Route 26 oval that
night.
"We
really want to focus
on building car
counts back to where
they were a couple
seasons ago," said
PASS President Tom
Mayberry. "By
keeping the series
to 12 races and
limiting travel
along with another
purse increase, we
feel like that will
help some of the
part time teams run
a full schedule in
2024."
The
PASS MODS series has
become a popular
landing ground for
young up-and-comers
to learn their
craft, while some of
the veterans nearing
the conclusion of
their career find
the PASS MODS a nice
place to compete.
With the 12-race
schedule featuring
either 1/4 mile
high-banked tracks
or the sweeping
turns of the 3/8
mile OPS, it allows
teams to be able to
compete with minimal
gear ratios and thus
saves teams money.
Further, the lack of
any mid-week races
and all the events
being single day
shows means teams do
not have to worry
about hotels and
days off from work,
making the series a
real working man's
tour.
Mayberry went on to
say, "We have gotten
some really good
support from
sponsors like
Kennebec Equipment
Rental and Weston
Automotive along
with others that
have allowed us
another purse bump.
We thought pairing
that up with reduced
travel, a big race,
and less gear
changes would help
teams save money and
also try to make
some trips they
didn't in years
past."
